Title: shield transfers
Post by: martin goddard on March 09, 2021, 08:46:52 PM
Shield transfers  seem to produce excellent results on 25mm figures.
Anyone tried using them on 15mm figure shields?

Yes done loads of LBMS & VVV. LBMS hoplites a pain to cut out ,must remember to try out the punch cutter

I use LBM decals on my Anglo Saxons and Vikings.  Definitely worth it.

I can imagine that hoplite ones would be really useful as the designs are often very geometric.
It would also be easier on figures with separate shields ?
How many can pne do before it gets tedious?

Have used VVV on hoplite shields before. Sharper results than my painting*, but one is restricted to what transfers are available, whereas there were all sorts of designs, many not covered by the transfer makers.
How long before it gets tedious? Who knows....it's certainly quicker than if I try to paint them.
* did a bunch by hand 25 years+ ago...still nice, but my hands are more wobbly now.

I did 300 15mm hoplites and 200 phalangites with LBMS ... even with a hole punch that was tedious

When you say hole punch, I take it you literally punch out the transfer?

That is a lot of figures Simon.
Is there a rule set that needed that many??

correct - I use a metal 'leather' punch (£2 from eBay) and a hammer

QuoteIs there a rule set that needed that many??

depends on the megalomania. As I recall - lets say-  DBM, Greek city states could have 100 bases of crappy Hoplites - so that is 400 figures

That is a lot of chaps.
Might that put off many gamers as too much paint/men?

games aren't like wot they used to be

most games now have far less - around the 100-150 figure mark
