Title: Let's Pretend...
Post by: Sean Clark on February 23, 2021, 01:20:45 PM
...that all social distancing rules are ended on 21st June.

Will we all be happy to shake hands?
Will be be happy to play games in Entoyment or each others homes without masks?
Will we essentially revert to pre-pandemic behaviour?
Or, will we have some hang overs from social distancing and still feel the need to have no physical contact and still wear masks?

There's no right or wrong to this. Clearly it will be personal choice which must be respected. But at the moment it seems such an alien concept for us to return to normal.

Any thoughts chaps?

I will follow the science (or at least the potentially dubious stats!), Sean.

I think if the vast majority of people have had at least one jab by then and transmission rates are demonstrably low by then, I'll be happy to shake hands and play without a mask. The thought of playing while wearing a mask or trying to socially distance isn't that appealing.

My lady wife may of course have other ideas for me!

Good question. Hadn't really thought about it (barring an unexpected set back, I had assumed a relative degree of 'normality' would have returned). I've received my first vaccination and should have received my second before June so I would feel reasonably confident. But what if my opponent hasn't? Who is most at risk? Should one of us or both continue to wear masks?

Horses for Courses I feel.

I will be fine going back to social interaction pre pandemic, but of course will carefully respect others who feel they want to have some sort of social distancing.

On a similar theme we vaccine support volunteers have been stood down at our centre for a week, because we are so far ahead with the local vaccinations. Outstanding news.

After the middle of May I would have had my 2nd Jab and so the beginning of June that should have embedded itself into my body etc. So I am happy to start meeting up especially with people that have had the jab and or actually had the virus ( recently ish ) as their bodies will have there own antibodies working etc, in a near normal way.
My working rule is if someone knows they are not too well to keep back or stay away then I am happy to basically meet up, it's those that don't give a dam.......
I think until the latter part of the year this will be the best way to go. It's seemingly kept me away from it, up to now.
Even though a lot of us still say those that meet up at Entoyment October/November/December 2019 on a regular bases, all had relatively bad illnesses and might of had the "first versions" of this virus ?

An important issue.

Well, we have plenty of time to speculate.

Maybe a combination of old and new?

It used to be a real oddity to see Chinese shoppers on Oxford Street with masks. Cries of "that's silly".

I suspect....
Advisory masks at  shows unless playing a game. Not compulsory though.
Masks in shops advisory but not common.
No masks on games with friends. Just plenty of games cancelled if there is a suspicion of infection ("safe than sorry" type culture).
Shake hands declines.
News items and road signs will include "outbreak alerts"

Plenty of gamers exercising their right to not be oppressed by "mask fascists/face nappies/freedom gags/Democrat weaklings" who cause folk to feel like WW2 prisoners on a Siberian railway gulag. "No one tells me what to do after what i did in WW2 for this nation".

Don't think I will ever go back to shaking hands and as for 'bumping elbows' ......just silly

I think I will be more aware of ventilation, especially in autumn and winter

As a biological scientist I will definitely be following the R rate. The more reproduction the more chance of mutation and may well adopt the East Asian habit of mask wearing in winter

I will be more wary of busy indoor events as well

Maybe we will adopt the 'hands together" type greeting?

After the initial lockdown scare we have no social distancing.  I'm shaking hands,  We don't wear masks.  We eat out at restaurants and go to pubs.  We can't travel though.  And none of us have been immunised yet.  That starts next month.  So I say to you all.  Life will return to normal.

Thanks for a positive note Paul.
At the start I thought (with my very limited medical knowledge ???) it would carry on for about 3 months.
This was obviously bonkers (whoops).

Maybe it will be a few years until it is not foremost in effect and thoughts?

Hopefully next year will get back to  some sort of normal.
Nothing looks like changing here until June or July.
Only the over 85's have started vaccinations, things will get back to some sort of normal.
Restaurants and bars here may be opening in May / June but with restriction in some areas.

You are very lucky Paul and you have the summer weather to enjoy.

We had good leadership and community solidarity from day one.  Locked state and international boarders immediately.  No one complained.  We got on with it and our lives remained as normal as they can get.
