Title: On line games day.
Post by: Leslie BT on January 15, 2021, 06:56:11 PM
An online games day for historical games was filled up in 15 minutes.
Yesterday Virtual Lard on January 30th had all the gaming seats filled in 15 minutes.
23 games in various periods and scales were filled. Most games have 4 players plus the organiser / umpire.

So can we do the same with PP games?

It wouldn't be for me.
Playing a game is just part of the enjoyment the other is meeting, talking to other players

It would be interesting to know what technology they are using Les.

I concur with Stewart that games lack "soul" without the personal contact though.

I want to know how you manage handing out the chocolate biscuits when it's all virtual.

Discord and Zoom are the favourites but some of the other free video conferencing software as well.

Your games this week will not have 'soul', chocolate biscuits, personal contact is banned, but you could talk to the other players legally.

This also allows players from around the world to meet up and join in games.

Discord seems to be the favourite amongst the mainly RPG groups around the Bournemouth area. I haven't really heard any negative reactions with this system. By the looks of it, it's not just a video hosting system either, you can use it for many other things too.
Personally I am happy using the down time to paint and model,Figures, Scenery and Armour and other projects for future games once we can start one to one gaming again, sometime in the summer. By the sounds of it May-June-July is looking likely as most of us should have had our "Jab" by then.
My only real concerns are supplies of some paints and models etc as with this Virus and Brexit turn around have had  affects on our hobby suppliers.

Then there are grumpy buggers like me who prefer solo, so totally unaffected by all this as far as wargaming is concerned.

Andy

PS prefer my social interaction in a pub; now that does affect me!

Have you a nice gaming pub near to you Andy for use in normal times?

No, TBH I find very competetively focused people difficult to relate to and not great company, which is why I now game solo. I prefer my company in walking groups, chatting with folk down the pub and so on. Anyway, wargaming is nowhere near as big in the Netherlands as in the UK. The Dutch magazine, Wargames Soldiers and Strategy, is only available in English as a Dutch print run would be uneconomical. I keep in touch with some of my old club mates but mostly for social interaction, painting tips and product news.

Have found a couple around here, Manche.  But it has taken several years.
Social media can be a way of finding contacts.
Xavier (Anatoli), and Pierre (Camulogene), were found by change through this forum, who meet and game just North of Rennes at Liffre.

I have found another group that meet at Fougeres.

I had seen some painted 15mm WW1 stuff and just asked where they gamed.

I have found some other gamers who post on TMP on the forum board 'Wargaming in France Message Board'. One 15mm group are at Bourg-en-Bresse just North of Lyon.
This is another good French site http://sylvain-figsethistoire1914-1944.blogspot.com/2019/11/chemin-des-dames-vaudesson-23-octobre.html with all sorts of French and other links.
There is an Australian Matt who is at L'Hotel de Hercé, Mayenne, Pays de Loire, Who run a war-games holiday centre.

But here in France board games and fantasy gamers are the most common, but it does take time to find them.
