Title: RCW painting guide
Post by: John Watson on December 30, 2020, 01:23:13 PM
Apart from the Osprey's can anyone recommend a good painting guide for RCW uniforms. I am thinking of putting together a force, probably a White army.

Thanks Martin. I did a search and all I can say is that you'd best double the guard on the Goddard library. I traced one copy in the UK for £75. Nothing else.
I was hoping that someone would know of a good internet site that I might have missed in my searches.

Not an expert on the RCW, but would the uniforms be much different to WW1 uniforms?

I agree Matias. the basic uniforms are identical to WW1.
However, to raise morale and espirit d corps many units become "special" uniformed.

Here are some examples.
1. Shock division   = all black uniforms with red topped peaked caps.
2. Markov division = alll black with white topped peaked hats.
3.Alekseev division= khaki top, dark blue trousers and peakless cap with white top.
4. Drozdovskiy division= White tops, dark blue trousers and red topped cap.
5. Kuban cossacks= black

Other white army colours include yellow caps, grey tops and green tops.
For keen painters, many units had very large army patches and insignia.

Then there are great flags too.
