Title: Sailor heads
Post by: Leman (Andy) on October 15, 2016, 05:08:00 PM
I note that there are currently British and Soviet/Russian sailor heads available. How about some Fench style with the pompon for use in 1914 Belgium. The French Navy, along with the RN, made a significant contribution in this area. Photographs show that the French sailors wore the infantry style greatcoat, so conversion would be very straightforward. The British-style cap head could be used for officers.

Yes indeed. A number of the books I have on 1914 show the French sailors in Belgium kitted out as French infantry but wearing the traditional French sailor's cap.

Some conversions of Peter Pig french 1914 infantry :

The sailor's cap with a pompom is called "bachi", and was worn during the Belgium campaign by the rank and file with the dark blue line infantry greatcoat.
The NCOs wore a stiff peaked cap, very similar to the british 1914 SD cap, but softened by removing the framework inside.
