My name is Sean and I have been playing Peter Pig games for probably 20 years! I own every rule set and most of the ones that are out of print. This includes a copy of the ancient rules by 'the effing levellers'.
Although I live in the north Midlands i consider the Weymouth bunch as good firends having travelled down to play games with them for close on 10 years now. Martin G has more often than not provided me board and lodging to make this possible.
I play many games, but my historical fix is almost exclusively provided by PP. As Lincoln said, "if you like this sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you will like."
My favourite period is probably the ACW closely followed by WW1. I have owned armies for every range PP produce albeit I am rebuilding my Samurai and Wars of the Roses collections.
My picture appears in one or two of the rule books.
I am an average but speedy painter. I go through peaks and troughs where I can paint a lot in a short time but then go for weeks without lifting a brush.
I'm currently reading 'the 1st Day of the Somme' by Martin Middlebrook. I intend to get the latest book by Hugh Seabag Montifore called 'Somme, Into the Breach'.
I'm looking forward to some good chat on here!
Glad to see you join Sean. Hopefully you will be able to come down to Burton for a game soon.
Now we have this forum things will be a lot easier to commutate rather than using that archaic Yahoogroup ;)
Simon
Hello all, Miles here. Hoping to see people at Bovington this weekend and at Entiyment the next weekend ?
Simon
I shall certainly take a drive down the A50 for a visit.
Miles,
I'm coming down for PBI!
Hi everyone, Andy Fuller from the Liverpool area. I've been using Peter Pig figures for many years - my first were Italian Renaissance, followed by ECW and WOR. My most recent project, still being worked on, is Belgium 1914, and the recent remodelling and expansion of the Belgian range has been a godsend.
Hello everyone,
Pierre Laporte from France, 53 years old. I've been painting Peter Pig figures for 20 years or more ; started with SCW figures from the old range, then WW1 with the first edition of Square Bashing about which I wrote arcticles and scenarios in the french wargames magazine "Vae Victis" in the 90'. Many Peter Pig figures from my own collection were also pictured, illustrating scenarios and rulesets (WW2, SCW, RCW, etc.) published in this magazine and other booklets.
As you can see, I'm a great fan of Peter Pig figures, which are - to my sense - the best 15mm ever produced : finely engraved, well animated, solid, hisorically exact.. and displaying more oink ! :D Painting and collecting PP figures is still one of my greatest everyday's pleasure, which didn't lessen even after all those years.
My future projects are Syria 1941 (operation Exporter : Aussies, Indian and Free French against Vichy troops), Monastir 1916 (WW1 Balkans front), and complete my ACW collection.
Many thanks to Martin and the Peter Pig team, and looking forward to make new friends here,
Pierre
Hi all, Paul from Perth in Western Austtalia. Been buying Peter Pig figures for over 15 years, and played Civil War Battles, PBI and Square Bashing. My contribution to the hobby was writing Armies of Belgium and Armies of China in the Bolt Action armies of osprey books. Current projects involve painting more Peter Pig ACW forces, and now an unexpected future project involving Peter Pig Turks for Square Bashing. Yay.
Hi chaps.
Stephen here from sunny Brussels. I am a long-term expat recently retired and hoping to get my act together to paint up my collection of PP figs, including Ancients, Vikings, WOR, ECW, Great War and loadsa PBI stuff. Oh, and 'Nam.
I am a slow painter so have probably got my work cut out. :-\
We have a good group of guys here, other expats and Belgian gamers. If you haven't been to the Crisis show in Antwerp, you haven't lived!! Beer's good too :)
I look forward to corresponding and enjoying the forum.
Best,
Stephen
Hello chaps,
I'm Mike in Germany. I first became interested in wargaming back in the 70s when I borrowed Donald Featherstone's War Games from the local library. Until recently my wargaming has been kept on the back burner by real life. However, I am now pushing forward with a plan to fight an imagi-nations guerrilla war set in 1980s Africa. I've even gone so far as to purchase my first airbrush and compressor setup from Amazon. I will of course be using Peter Pig figures to fight this war.
Stand by for lots of dumb and not so dumb questions from a newbie in the coming months.
:)
Welcome Mike,
There are no dumb questions, but maybe a few dumb answers (from me at least!)
Sean
Hi All,
I'm Tim, and I've been wargaming since the mid80s when a schoolmate waved WRG Moderns at me. I also play computer, board and RPG games.
I have Hammerin' Iron as I got interested in ACW actions and it was TMP recommended. I also own PBI as I was looking for something else to do with my FoW based figures and again it seemed interesting. I had played Strategos for Ancients and thought the idea might be interesting for WWII.
When not gaming I tend to be found on a rugby pitch and I also will probably ask many questions!
Ask away Tim! And welcome aboard.
A bit about me, I live in Weymouth, Dorset. Met Martin and Peter Pig about 12 yrs ago since then I have bought and painted about 8000 PP. Figures and play tested all the rule sets since about 2004.
I organise a games weekend in November in Weymouth for all to attend for a modest fee.
The best weekends gaming on the planet. Fact.
Thanks for the plug Sean
Hello, Ian from Reading here. I started wargaming Tolkien stuff in the early 70s (at a very, very early age...obviously) and, I have to say, haven't got it right yet. I'm not a regular at any club (the nearest to that is my c.6 times a year visits to Shrewsbury WC) and I'm a woefully slow painter. That said, I am a truly accomplished buyer of wargames stuff. I've have been a PP fan for many years, and have a fair handful of the rules and figures (EIR, Germans, Parthians, Dwarfs, Gnomes, WW2, WOTR, ECW, Hammerin' Iron), some of which are even painted. I was fortunate to be able to pop in to the last Weymouth weekend and was made most welcome - thanks to all who were there.
Hi Ian,
may I direct you to the new members sections, as there is some useful stuff in there

I have already posted but I guess I should do an intro.
I'm Mark from Toronto, Canada. I have been playing games for <cough> 30 plus years but I have yet to play a RFCM game! I do now own a few sets of RFCM rules though and hope to play some of them this year. I am originally from Yorkshire, in England 'gods own county' as it's called but moved over the pond and have been settled in the former colonies now for nearly 20 years.
As I have no-one local who plays these rules, if I have questions I guess I'll be asking them here. I look forward to playing some of these games and getting some of the local guys interested as well. In the future I'll share my comments and pictures of these games. I do have a varied (too varied) scope of interest in games and also play some board games as well so that may take some time to do.
I'm not the greatest painter but do have a long running blog of all the stuff I paint, plus I put up some game reports/reviews etc. The link to that is here if you are interested: https://mellis1644.wordpress.com
Well nice to meet you all.
Hello and salutations! Chet here. I go by "The Bane" on-line, but feel free to use my actual name if you prefer.
Just purchased PBI Company Commander and the PBI Company Architect (literally received the PDFs in my email box this AM, Thanks so much for the speedy turn around!).
I live in very rural Louisiana, USA and the few folks I do get to socialize with are mainly board-gamers. I think I may be able to convince a few of them to try TTWGs, so I am hopeful. I do do a bit of RPG games on-line, and the few actual TTWG (Chain of Command or 5 Core) has been on-line via Roll20 or solo using proxies. Sorry, though PP Miniatures look great, I just can't justify the expense until I get some converts and someone to paint them. Until then I will probably be using proxies.
My areas of interest wise are; World War 2 (obviously), Middle Ages, Medieval, Dark Ages, and some Sci-Fi. But WW2 is the primary genre / age I am interested in and where my interests primarily lie.
About me... well I am a married man pushing 50 that is soon to have my 25th wedding anniversary, with 2 beautiful girls; 20 and 21 years of age. My wife supports my 'nerd games' with a small gaming allowance ;D when I want something or another, but I can't seem to drag her into any type of gaming, whether it be; RPGs, Boardgames, or TTWGs. :-[
I served in the US Army for nearly 10 years as a 19D Cavalry Scout (Recon!) until I became too broke to continue. I left the Army in 2000, and have been a civilian contractor pretty much since then - supporting and training troops in one capacity or another.
Really look forward to delving into PBI and hope to get some actual local players involved if I can. Until then, I hope to get the rules squarely under my belt and be a productive member of the forums. Thanks for having me, and from what I have seen thus far, you have a wonderful product, customer service, and community here!
Scouts Out!
The Bane
Welcome Bane, this is just the place for you! Good luck with the rules and has been said elsewhere shout up with any questions.
Welcome Ian. I've just had a look at my original post, which is not particularly enlightening. So, RFCM games I have and have played include CWB, Bloody Barons, Hammerin' Iron, RoF, and Square Bashing. I'm not attracted to the post-1925 era where technology seems to become more important than troops (reason I don't play the trench aspects of Square Bashing). As well as RFCM and 15mm figures I also use other rule systems and figure scales, and particularly like Peter Pig 3mm ACW figures which I use with the grand tactical Altar of Freedom rules.
Hello my name is John and I'm an alcohol...... Damn wrong website.
Seriously though I thought I should post this having started to use the site after about 2 years of reading it.
I started wargaming at least 50 years ago and dabble in anything pre 1945. I try to champion PP rules whenever I can but find that folk see them as Marmite and most of my club (Wessex Wargames Society) aren't keen, which is sad. That said I had a very enjoyable PBI 1944 Germans v Russians last meeting. I am the chair of the Lance and Longbow Society so have played lots of Bloody Barons at shows and I am very interested in the development of the new set. Currently my 2d worth is running at about 3 shillings. (If you don't understand the currency ask your parents.) I now live near Hythe in the New Forest, but was previously in London where I gamed with the North London Wargames Group. At wargames shows you will sometimes find me helping my old friend Dave Lanchester selling books from his military book stall.
Nice to meet you John. And great timing with the new Bloody Barons rules in the pipeline.
I hope you enjoy being a Forum member - please continue to join in with the banter!
Simon
Welcome John; I too am a Lance and Longbow member and have quite a large WOR collection, which began before PP produced the Bloody Barons range, but has since been heavily augmented by the range. I am following the development of BB 2nd edition with great interest.
Leman with your large collection what rules do you use?
A bit of a mix. I have already made two armies for use with Bloody Barons, and have had many great games with them. However, I am also a player of Basic Impetus 2 and To the Strongest. I have also been inspired by Fat Wally's (Kev) WOR prepared for Impetus, so duly looked at my lead mountain. Lo and behold about 90% Peter Pig figures, so I shall be preparing these on 80mm frontage bases for use with BI2 and TtS, using my 10cm squared cloth.
Hi guys
I started wargaming 36 years ago with 25mm Hinchliffe Napoleonic's up on Teesside in the UK, but left all my figures and moved to Singapore, before moving to Wellington NZ.
I've dropped in and out of the hobby but eventually painted some Pendraken 10mm AWI, 7YW and early WW2. Just started to look at 15mm as my eyes aren't what they were and bought a few odds and ends from 15mm manufacturers, but my few Peter Pig figures are the nicest.
I don't attend any local clubs and just play solo so have to paint both sides. My old rules are all based on 20x25mm or 25x25mm bases with 4 figures, so just pondering if I need to move to 30x30mm and get used to the extra space... or just stay with 25x25mm. Looking at AWI, but also WW1 or Vietnam in the future.
Welcome to the forum ngn. Good to have your company here.
No need to change any of your base sizes for playing PP rules. A lot of PP rules are zonal/gridded/area so the footprint of the unit is not too important.
You may find that gridded games such as the PP ones make for easier solo games. This is because the grid areas can be identified by number and that number used for random generation and the like(?)
Welcome NGN. I play Walter Schnaffs (the FPW version of Square Bashing with 10mm figures on 25mm square bases. Recently I have also moved back to painting 15mm figures, mainly WWI (mostly PP figures), WoR (a substantial number of PP), ECW (again mainly PP), ACW, and the Great Italian Wars (featuring an early range of PP figures, plus many others). My next project will be Longships, which is likely to be a purely PP project. Hope you enjoy your wargaming renaissance and visit the forum often.
It is about time you came on this website John. About time we played CWB again ???
Welcome, far4ngn. Regarding your basing question, it depends on the pose. 4 figures on a 25mm x 25mm base can be a squeeze - but most of my ACW figures are 4 to a base. I used this base size because my Pendraken figures were already based like this plus 1 inch (25mm) is the base width for infantry in the Fire & Fury ACW Rules. If doing it again, I might consider 30mm x 30mm - but I won't be doing it again! Some photos of mine. Most show 4 to a base but one also shows 3 to one base (these are advancing figures and I try not to have too many weapons hanging over the edge of a base).

Thanks guys...my logon name is far4ngn, you may be wondering why its from an old 80's VW add meaning fahrvergnugen meaning driving enjoyment lol.
In 10mm I've standardised on 4 figs to 20x20 and the few 28mm I now have fit nicely onto a 40x40. For 15mm my old rules and I mean old are all around the 20-25x25....anyway after much thinking I've started to rebase my PP figures...
My first unit of 15mm AWI on 30x30 in 4's and I'll do the same for my WWI Germans and Belgians... can someone advise if its 4 per base or 3 please. MG's on one 30x30.
Sounds good. What name would you like folk to use when we chat??
Changed my forum name to make it simpler :)

I think I might manage to remember that one :)
Simon
Paul. thank you for that, appreciated.
It makes a difference.
It is good that this forum can be a grown up type forum with names. I will urge all forum members to have an everyday first name that we can use. I really like meeting new gamers and a name makes it more grown up.
Pretty sure it's not that important how many figures are on a base, especially as SB is a gridded game and it is the number of bases that counts. In fact I play it in 10mm with 3 infantry on a 30 x 20 base. My 15mm figures are used in a company based game and are on 50 x 25 bases.
Having returned to the fold like some kind of sheep who lost his way, I have always been curious as to why members join a forum but never post anything.
Of course, it may be that they just want to browse and don't feel the need to contribute. But why bother creating an account?
So, a challenge to anyone who lurks and has never posted....
1. Tell us how you got into the hobby
2. Tell us how you found this forum
3. What RFCM games do you play?
Don't phone, it's just for fun...! :D
Hi chaps, although I'm only 17 I've gone to Wargames shows and events since I was a toddler. I never minded being dragged along by my dad and now share his hobby. I hate painting as that's what dads are for. My favourite pp game is SCW followed by PBI. I enjoy going to the gaming day and hope to see you at future events.
Ben Ward
Well come Ben, May be when your dads fixed you could come to the games weekend November 2020.
Hope to see you in January for pbi
Stewart
Welcome Ben, and good to meet you at the PBI day.
Congratulations on getting your dad to paint for you!
Welcome Ben. I think perhaps your Dad's job is now to teach you how to paint :)
I think you were planning to go to the Warfare show at the weekend, so hope to see you both there (I'll aim for first thing on the Saturday).
Simon
Crikey Simon, 3 weekends of hobby time in a row :D
Welcome Ben; I started painting when I was 12 and I'm now 67. It's a learning curve and best started with a few figures [I am currently painting just 3 figures to finish off a unit, which is a pleasure rather than a chore, and given me a chance to try out a couple of new techniques]. What sort of wargames periods have grabbed your attention.

I know - shocking! Albeit my travel time to Warfare is minimal :)
Of course, I won't now be allowed out of the house to play toy soldiers in 2020...
Just tell the boss it's 'historical research' I'm sure she'll let you go.
Ben, it was a pleasure to do battle with you and your Dad last weekend. Your Germans were well commanded and fought hard right until the game end. I started wargaming in my 20's and enjoy it more and each year.
Michael
Hello Ben, I really Enjoyed our first proper game of PBI, hopefully I taught you a few basics, I did have a bit of Luck at times, showed you the importance of having support elements in the game. Hopefully we will get the chance to play quite a few more in the future.
I will at some point get a SCW force up together, as I was going to combine, my early War PBI force with a Facist force for SCW ?
