Here are the pictures of my Japanese company as used for PBI 2020. 3 x now.
They have lost all 3 games . If in doubt do the same thing again. It is bound to work?

Quite impressive Martin.
What would you say is there main strength in PBI?
Cheers,
Helen
Force consists of
3 foot platoons.(each of 12 bases)
1 MMG unit (3 MMGs plus officer with sword)
1 tank unit (5 TeKe tanketes)
Company commander with very sharp sword.
martin :)
Hello Helen
Their main strength is the ability to assault for 3AP (action points), as opposed to the normal 4AP.
The frustration is the officer's lack of a ranged weapon (his pistol has no ranged effect). It means that he takes up space but contributes nothing to shooting. He is cheap on points though.
Against later war opponents the Japanese suffer from the lack of powerful AT weapons.
Their poor quality is offset by the cheap cost.
The tankettes usually end up like empty baked bean cans.
All this being said they are able to surprise enemy and myself when they win an assault.
martin :)
Thank you Martin.
I like the very sharp sword meme :D
They beat me when I borrowed your 14th Army, Martin... :-[
I'd like to think that that was entirely due to their sneaky Flank Attack asset (successfully used twice?).
And your not bothering to include any tanks, even though I'd considerately thought to bring along lots of PIATs, which ultimately served no useful purpose.
My natural tactical ineptitude was thus completely outweighed by the above two factors (oh - did I mention dodgy dice?).
I would add too that the copious use of flags by the Japanese confers a morale advantage - albeit possibly affecting the real-life opponent more than their little lead tabletop adversaries.
Simon
I think flags are the tactical clincher?
martin :)
Formidable army but let down by Martin's inability to roll decent dice, he needs more practice

Yes indeed. I have bought some to bedeck my own force. Maybe next year, post-Paras...

Great looking army Martin. Makes me really want to play PBI.
Really impressed by the Japanese. I'm now looking at the Dutch East Indies so I can field a Japanese force alongside the Dutch.
Thank you.
Helen
Martin
Looking at your dead Jap markers. What do the different colour codes represent in the game?
Thanks
Paul
The colours are for the different platoons. When you play you will end up with markers in the same square but belonging to a specific platoon for morale.
So Martin has four platoons with four labels but five colours ignore the two yellow ones marked 'JAP A'.
Martin just threw that in to confuse.
Martin and and his IJA played valiantly today but the Dutchmen were flying!
Martin sent 1 platoon and his light tanks against my left flank and pushed round to the objective.
As his force grew larger with reinforcements arriving my left platoon took heavy casualties, including the Platoon Leader yet passed 3 morale tests, only to disappear on reaching 2 bases. The objective was finalLy saved by the arrival of my Medium Mortar team.
There were plenty of assaults, the best one resulted from Martin's Sneak Move asset that took 3 or 4 bases across half the table and then launch their successful attack.
Two Japanese l/tanks were lost vs one Vickers l/t (good old British engineering, what?).
My AT rifles were of little use, my Med Mortars use smoke well but there HE was substandard. Rapid Arrival asset ensured I had a third Platoon on to seal the victory.
Very enjoyable as always. Thanks Martin, looking forward to a game of PBI 2020.
Entoyment was quite busy but the guys there are a little nervous about the new Covid rules ( fines and Marshalls ) from Monday. Their catering offering has expanded but will be a a takeaway food service, so "Car Park Dining" is the new thing. More to come on this one.
Mike
Nice write-up Mike, thanks!
Good to see that Martini's IJA got the comeuppance it deserved. Any bets on whether early versions of PBI 2020 might award extra Victory Points to armies with more flags or long sharp pointy things than their opponents?
Let's hope that Entoyment can continue to host responsible gamers under the new rules.
Simon
Always nice to see the lads out on parade!
I think a good smoke screen might allow my Japanese to "get in"?
