I cannot cleverly predict anything in this sphere with confidence.
But i can guess! :)
I bet £5 that Salute will happen.
There...money where my mouth is.
Here is what will definitely happen (?????)
Ten predictions. I did bet money that Hilary would win the presidency.
1. Vaccine Feb 2021. Administering starts April 2021. Just one week after Salute.
2. London warlords feel "They have to go ahead" because Excel will not give any refund if the show does not go ahead.
3.Plenty of games go to Salute.
4. Bring and buy re- instated in order to boost attendance.
5. European traders halved in number. Because of UK exit from European trade zone.
6. Salute has a full dealer attendance. They need the money.
7. Public attendance is about 62% of normal. Lots of social media posts about the right/wrong of attending. Lots of "me,me,me" posts.
8. Attendees declare the show a "success". Non attendees declare show a "failure".
9. Traders make less money than usual.
10. Gradually shows return to what they were with no changes.
Nostradamus
(it is really martin though ;)
The truth is that the new vaccine will be available from February 2021, but the British Govt will have invested in the Primark version, which is cheaper, but doesn't work. Still at least we got 10 trillion doses for the same price that the French paid for 50,000 doses.
Post Brexit there will be no Polish, French, Italian, Spanish or German armies for sale at Salute. Historically, this could make for some fairly dull re-enacted table top battles. The Battle of the Bulge would be a bit one sided and Fornovo would be a complete no show.
All items on the bring and buy would have to be sanitised in advance, so those professionally painted Polish winged hussars or Napoleonic Mamelukes would be stripped back to the metal, losing about 90 per cent of their value. What a bargain.
John
Mystic Martin eh 😂
I'd have to agree with 9 and 10.
Also I'm in accord with John and am sure our goverment will find a way of messing up the vaccination programne. Maybe they will rely on the Chlorine in our American imported chickens killing the virus. Chlorine is used in bleach which as Donald says can be drunk to kill it 😉😉
Mike
Martin you are a tease!
Julie will have to put the crystal ball back in the loft.
1. I won't be there 😭
The important fact is if Salute was to go as planned next year ? Will Peter Pig be there ?
Miles
I've just heard that there won't be a vaccine until winter '21. That means no shows or "away" games for me for the next year unless there is a significant change.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
I expect to attend Salute 2021.
We have a lot of money at stake. (£500)
The medical situation might effect our ability to carry out participation games.
Set and take down would probably not be affected by social spacing.
Maybe there would be a sign in at the door to accept the risk of virus contraction?
At the minimum we might go just to drop off orders.
This might then become a full stand.
At the maximum there would be a participation game too, along with a full Peter Pig team. :)
I would expect PP plans to become more definitive 10th February 2021. :-\
The need for the country to function economically will "grind" down and overtake health concerns whether we like that or not.
Interesting times we live in. ???
martin
They reckon international air travel won't return to normal until 2023 so I will see you that year.
Martin,
You have picked up that Salute is now 10th April, cutting it pretty fine with the decommissioning of the Nightingale
Let's see!
Hello Graham
The world is very bonkers at the moment.
I might just close my eyes and click my heels together.
All will be fine then.
martin :)

Martin,

Let's see!
The Nightingale at ExCeL was decommissioned many, many months ago, and now only about 10% or less of the entire venue is being 'held' for the NHS as a storage facility for the beds and other medical equipment should they ever need to spin it up again at reasonably short notice.
Personally I still think April will prove to be too soon, on the basis that the restrictions against Trade Shows announced in October were due to be in place until at least April. All current experience suggests that any announcements about lifting restrictions are only being made at the last minute, and there are often extensions. That puts Salute! in a tricky position as they won't know if the show can go ahead (or not) until probably only a matter of days before its due to open... a scenario which makes taking bookings from traders very difficult, which in turn means getting punters to commit up front will also be very difficult.
It may come down to how / if the venue have rolled forward the 2020 booking to 2021, how they might treat a situation in which the show is legally able to open but that announcement comes too late to give Warlords time to organise and promote the event, and - possibly - whether Warlords are sensible and have built up a contingency fund sufficient to insulate them from the losses of a cancelled edition of the show.
Taking that all into account, and without even pretending I know anything at all about vacine roll-out schedules (which I don't!), my bet would be it gets postponed to later in the year ... !
I doubt very much if it will be on. I am still producing contingency plans reviews, the most current produced last week covers up to 1 June. For my pennies worth I think we will be lucky to see a show in 2021, if we do it will be Sept at the earliest.
Dave
I think the same for Live gigs as well August 2021 I think will be the earliest.
I watched some stuff on Sky I recorded over Xmas last year, and watching the adverts was like watching another world. How our perception has changed in a relatively short time.
Even John's prediction of Bovington 2021 being the first show is looking a bit off now ?
Miles
The summer will see a dip in the virus, but even if the vaccine proves to be safe and viable the logistical nightmare of obtaining the amount of doses needed, plus the county wide vaccination programme puts us towards the autumn, all being well. I just think 2021 although looking more positive will not be able to open the door to large events. I really hope I am wrong, and the door is open again to our hobby extravaganza of big shows.
God that was a depressing post - sorry guys.
Dave
Good thoughts Tim and Dave
One problem is that the Warlords have all the trader money. This might hurt them if it has to be returned in march /April. This in turn might force them to put the show on just so that they do not have to return the many thousands of pounds??
"Dear trader, the show was on. It is your fault for not turning up"
Dilema?
Of course we are apparently having micro chips injected by Bill Gates. Also there are two Paul Mc Cartneys. The proof is that the Beatles stopped doing live concerts because the two Pauls were different heights so they could not be seen alongside Lennon for singing. Proof if ever there was.
martin :) ???
You forgot "fake Melania"....... :)
Indeed. 5 of them Neil?
Apparently the injected micro chip can e used to "switch off"people. That David Icke really is.
martin
Probably off again as the government is intending to reopen it as a Nightingale hospital.
I am expecting adecision by Salute by 3rd February. (??)
martin ???
February 3rd 2022?
Who can guess Les?
The EU agreement means that traders/gamers from Europe can still get to salute with "relative" ease but the import method/conditions are not clear yet.
I am watching with morbid interest what happens at the first UK show in 2021.
A. Gamers and traders flock to a show having been starved of gaming.
B. Imposed restrictions make gamers and traders think "why bother".
I guess B for January to June 2021. I guess A for July (ff) 2021.
martin :)
Option "C" (I'd like to go but not worth the risk) for me until July depending on infection levels, hospital occupancy etc.
Best wishes,
Martin Buck
Yes. Would be "C" for me too. We are going nowhere until the lands are rid of this foul pestilence.
Terry
that quote sounds like a comment on the new Top Gear?
martin :)
@Martin Don`t watch Top Gear even though I am a massive petrolhead.
I think you'll be going in 2021 Sean!
My opinion is now only a 11% chance of the Salute show happening.
Big implications for all that 2020 merchandise the Warlords had made.
Maybe a club night in late 2021 with a permanent marker pen for each Warlord member?
I believe that 2022 will be the next Salute??
martin ???
I'd say 0% chance of Salute this year, now that the CMEX is being used as a hospital.
John
My state in Australia has gone into hard border lockdown again as the British Mutant Virus (that's what the news called it) has arrived, and its 70% more contagious than the Chinese Communist Virus.
Oh joy.

I quite like the "British Mutant Virus" moniker (even better if we could somehow fit "Ninja" in there too, though). However, I do hope that our post-Brexit exports will soon extend beyond this.
At the risk of being a Cassandra, I can't see anything much happening in the way of UK shows until after the summer, by which time most of us should have had a couple of jabs.
It will all be over by Christmas though? ::)
Simon
Can't see any shows happening before the summer at the earliest now.

Well we were promised that we would "prosper mightily" - perhaps the script said "propagate". It wouldn't surprise me if someone celebrates that our strain is "harder" than the Chinese version! After hearing IDS boasting GB would "dominate" the world, anything is possible.....
Small island-big ambitions. Unfortunately no sign whatsoever of a Churchill, Pitt, Nelson, Wellington, Attlee or even a Cromwell. Don't think limp lettuce can achieve very much.
Cinfirmation that the April date is cancelled. No surprise really. New date for the 2021 show is 27th November subject to confirmation. This, apparently, clashes with Warfare at Ascot Racecourse. If both go ahead it will give attendees and traders a few headaches.
John
Thanks for the update, John. No surprise at all, other than November may be too early for such a big event?
The Warfare clash is unfortunate, as that is quite a big local/regional show. I hope that this clash is not deliberate (e.g. in a world with fewer shows and maybe a survival of the fittest...), but rather just a function of what dates are available at ExCeL with everyone busy rearranging postponed events.
Simon
It would also clash with us possibly ? WWW is either the last or 2nd last weekend in November ?
Miles

How dare they?! I think in that case Salute definitely needs to be moved.
Simon
Thank you John.
Using your tracker skills. :)
I have e mailed them a few days ago and gotten no reply.
Where have they put out the information John?
I think the November date is probably the best they can do?
I expect a lot of traders will ask for their money back and sit quietly until 2022 to see the recovery rate of the hobby??
martin ???
For myself the WWW will take precedence over Salute.
martin :)
Gentlemen thanks for your support, nothing booked for WWW but thinking of 19-21st Nov as we don't normally pick warfare weekend.
I think we need to wait and see what happens next winter especially if this virus continues to mutate and if the boffins can keep up with it.
Stewart
For 2021 I have written off the idea of going to any shows, will concentrate on working on a few projects at home. Not planning any gaming days or adventures at the moment until we see the situation stabilise it self.
Ben and I will get a few battles in, going to do a weekend's Arnhem battle in February, over the two days.
Dave & Ben
Stewart it will be tents on the park in front of PP HQ all socially distanced, and outdoors. You will need to bring your winter warmers though so unless we set PITTS in the snow somewhere it may not be a game to bring!
Sounds good Les,
Tents for the toys and we can be real men and sleep under the stars
Stewart
Oh yes we don't want to ruin the terrain and toys.
I expect to see Stewart's Christmas army though!
Simon
The information came from Kev Smith, our chairman, who has been in contact with the Warlords organisers. The November date was offered by Excel as the only suitable date they had available for the same price.
John
Thanks for clarifying, John. Good to hear that there are no shenanigans going on, but things are likely to be tough for Warfare in its new venue if both shows are able to go ahead.
I'm guessing traders typically make more from the larger captive audience at Salute (but may of course be wrong here) and would likely favour that over a day at the Ascot races?
Simon
Interesting development.
If the show goes ahead will the Warlords refund traders who pull out? Glad it's not clashing with WWW. I would have chosen the WWW over Salute regardless. More fun and cheaper!
If the 3rd weekend in November is a possible date, I shall book my leave for both weekends just in case.
Would they still hold the 2022 one in April? Seems very close together.
I ve booked the 3rd and 4 th Weekends off from work anyway for now. As WWW is on the Top of my list of Must Go to this year, then any shows a very poor second.
Miles
Hi Sean
I haven't booked any date with Kate yet.
I think it's too early with the uncertainties at the moment.
Stewart
Thank you John. Good to know these things.
Well Stewart. How about diverting all those who were to attend Salute or Warfare to the WWW? Might need a few extra tables though?
martin :)
You could set up a PP stand along the beach front, Martin?
Simon
Yes Simon.
Strict 12 feet length though. With screens in front so that customers cannot extend wider than the 12'. Then we achieve the cramming of a real show.
martin :)
Miles has a lot of stuff to sell off, so he could have his own bring-and-buy stand. Maybe another 18 feet, as he has lots of scenery?
Entoyment could come along and set up with their toasted sandwiches and tea urn.
I think we might have the makings of a Wargaming-by-the-Sea show here?
Simon
I think all of us could take the opportunity to get rid of excess stock 😜
But windy in November though!
Like Miles, Salute comes a poor second and its an I terwstinv point whether 2022 would run in the April.
Sean
I cannot sell the kids, its wrong!!!
Dave
We should be practical. We will need to hire a band and some marquees/maquis?
martin ???
No Dave it's not wrong, it's practical....
You could even buy a Boxed Army from PP with the profits
Miles
Seeing the benefits Miles!
Dave
There is a post on TMP that Salute is now 13th Nov, Warfare 27th Nov.
If that's true it's very good of them both to leave 19-20th alone for the WWW , if it goes ahead.
Stewart
It is nice SLW to keep us all up to date on their website, which is still telling us that Salute 2020 is going ahead on 16th April 2020. Come on guys. If you are going to run a website keep it up to date. Also the last update about Salute on their Facebook page is dated 20th August 2020. That is poor.
John
Martin
If you need a band, I play guitar, Nigel plays the ukelele, anyone for the triangle or spoons?
I'll take a hat round for collections from the audience.
Simon
Got my letter from the organisers to say Salute is now scheduled for November 13th
I've put it on another thread Salute is now scheduled for 13th November with a view to the 2022 show taking place in June and 2023 back to April
Well that will allow everyone to plan the rest of their year!!!
Simon it would be good if these two threads lead into one.
Hi Graham have they picked a date inJune?
Looking to run Bovington in June with a lot of the regular traders already paid for space
Stewart
Hi -no not yet in the letter they just say they're in negotiations with excel to look at a date in June.

June 2022 I would go to Bovington rather than Excel.
Probably a lot of traders would be the same, as £500 plus that they charge the traders ?might bring them down south.
November will be a busy month for us all then ?
Is the weekend of 20th and 21st November? Going to be the date your going for WWW? Stewart?
Miles
For November WWW would be my priority. Whatever date you like Stewart.
martin :)
I've not yet made it to ExCel, and would also prefer to go to WWW / Bovington, respectively.

I've merged the "Salute 2021" posts under the General Discussion (!) board, with the "Lowdown on Salute 2021" thread here on this "Announcements and Shows" board (which is really the best place for show-related discussions).
And to keep things simple (?) I've renamed it all "Salute 2021".
I trust that's as clear as mud for everyone ;)
Simon
I think Simon is crushing the freedom of the proletariat.
What do we want?
Not quite sure, but I will know it when I see it.

Martin, you are of course correct. Les made me do it :D
Simon
I think the jab is mthe actual cocktail.
November getting so busy that Broadside has been rescheduled again from 6 November to 4 December. Even so can only see me making one show in those months.
