With a drum roll....! The date for this is Sat 10th December 2016.
The venue is now Battlefield Hobbies in Daventry.
http://www.battlefieldhobbies.co.uk (http://www.battlefieldhobbies.co.uk)
Hopefully the centrally located venue will help those on the periphery of the country. The entry fee is £10 per player. This includes lunch :-)
The theme will be "up til the guns of August". The period will from 1900 up to, and including 1914. It will be a team event (entries permitting). The armies are divided into 2 Pools, grouped by conflict. Each team must pick a pair of armies from a single conflict.
The allowed lists are -

There will be 2 games, Team against Team (As vs Bs). For each game he sum of each team score will be added to the team total. To encourage using under valued armies the sum total of army rating will be deducted from final score.
The terrain will be pre set , other than its RAW. All painted figures please, we want it to look nice!
If you want the full experience there is a t-shirt accompany the event. Profits from which help to finance the RFCM forums (£2)

Sorry Simon, bit far for me from Weymouth, hope you have a good day
We have so far
Dene Green
Peter Gregory
Paul Freeman
Ray Boyles
& Me
so as it stands we will just make it singles rather than paired event. Hopefully early days
anyone else interested?
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this event, but it has spurred me to at last have a go at the Boer War using 10mm figures.
Hopefully me too!
Love to but... its a long drive from Auckland,
I had a bit of a recce at Battlefield hobbies this weekend (at the BHGS doubles). We've got the small room, as we are likely not to break double figures. Its nice and comfortable
(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa17/list_lurker/IMG_3282_zpsny5b3njp.jpg)
They will lay on a buffet (so it will be £10 per head rater than £5), they have a £2 mug hire (bottomless tea and coffee) , so should all be very pleasant. I do need to confirm numbers by mid November so please let me know if you are interested.
As we are looking at lower numbers, we'll probably drop the theme and just keep it open (and handle the draw appropriately)
It looks a nice venue, hope it all goes well for you
Yes, it does sound good, but currently I have too many commitments to fit it in.
I'll try to get it fully documented. I'd like to repeat it in the new year on a larger scale - if successful
We need a PP event in the Midlands
Lurkio
We do need an event in the Midlands. I did try a few years ago to get a Ak47 thing going at the Stoke TA centre competition day but never got it off the ground. More my fault really.
There are certainly players out there. I remember Kevan Gunn drove down to Bournemouth and Bristol from Scotland for PBI days. So there are people prepared to travel. I know Tim Porter (aka Madaxeman) tried to get something on at Britcon too.
I think PBI/AK47/Sqaurebashing are the best bets unless we had a generic RFCM day with people bringing along any RFCM game to showcase the rules.
And I am still intending to get down to Burton for a game one week.
I would be prepared to give a Squarebashing Day in Stoke a whirl. So easy to get to from Liverpool on the train.
The generic RFCM day that Sean mentions is basically what the Weymouth games weekend is.
We normally have 5 or 6 sessions with up to 4 games running.
This year we have a host for each game who run/umpire the game with up to 3 others joining in.
It's a good chance to try a new period or sort out rule questions you may have.
If anybody wants to come it is £15 for the weekend but if not local you will need accommodation, the hotel we are in is fully booked but I might be able to find a room locally, the date is 25-27 Nov.
The venue looks great a shame I can't attend but unfortunately I'm working that weekend. I would have been nice to get out my WW1 figures for a couple of games of Square Bashing and would have encouraged me to finish of those LW French. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of games and seeing what is more popular 1914 or 1918, Western, Eastern or Far East fronts.
Good luck.
Chris
Yes I'm looking forward to this. Probably early war French for me?
Are you a definite Sean as I will need to firm up numbers for the buffet soon
I'll have to say no now as I've now discovered I'm booked into Alton Towers for my wife's Christmas do on the Friday night and we are staying over.....Very disappointed as I really want to support any events in the Midlands. Really sorry :-\
Not to worry Sean... maybe next time! ;)
As an update to this we are now up to 7 confirmed players
Dene Green
Peter Gregory
Paul Freeman
Ray Boyles
Bob Amey
Simon Wilson
& Me
There are a couple of new players here so , I'm happy to sit out and assist with those games (and make it even if we get a drop out)
thanks
Simon
With a just a few weeks to go here is the latest position. We now have 8, and the teams are tentatively -
(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa17/list_lurker/Screen%20Shot%202016-11-22%20at%2020.43.05_zps9zh4g7xo.png)
Ray is trying to get another player to allow me to help out with the new players ... but no confirmation as yet
The entry if £10 per person. This includes a buffet that the boys at B/H will lay on. They also sell snack and drinks (with a £2 mug hire for bottomless tea and coffee). So we are reasonable well catered for on site. There is nothing around the shop particularly (no pub in walking distance etc)
They open at 9am. So I suggest a 9.30 start ... so roughly speaking game 1 9:30 - 12:30 , and game 2 13:30 - 16:30. BUT lets all be flexible on this - it just a nice day out to play a couple of games.
I really wanted to get to this but my daughter Grace is having her birthday then. Any chance of a further event> I could probably bring a car full from this area/?
martin
Gutted I'm missing it too, but I do hope we get more midlands piggie events. I'm pretty sure Tim the Madaxeman has tried to get something going at Britcon in August which is in Manchester. We need to co-ordinate diaries.
I certainly hope that this is just the start. It really all depends on how we get on with this event! Finding the venue is often the most tricky thing. Battlefield hobbies is central with good transport links. Its a dedicated gaming store, with an event hall that can accommodate up to 50 tables (as I can recall), they certainly host the FOW and BHGS big tournaments. Currently we only have the small gaming area, the difference being once we have to open the 'big room' they have to have another member of staff on site. This doesn't have much difference to the player cost - but it does mean we have to commit to bring 'x' players ... so that will be the next level
If it all goes well, I suspect we can look at another in the new year
That is good news. The battlefield location is fine for me!
Welcome Simon P, as our 8th (new) player. So this has brought things neatly to a close, and I'm not seeking any further entrants. 4 teams makes the theme work well, and 2 new players mean I can sit with them to assist. SO, the final list of teams are (with a bit of alteration)
I've added the combined army status and tie break bonus points (based on max combined team army - your team armies). So this gives the weaker armies (Turks) a bit of a boost. Peter I'm assuming that you want to the bring the Middle East Turks?
With 2 new players I've done the first round matchups as -
(http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa17/list_lurker/Screen%20Shot%202016-11-23%20at%2018.33.19_zpsqxwyzixj.png)
The 2 new players playing one another while I supervise. The rest worked out nicely.
We've had a dropout for this. If anyone else can make it - that would be great ! as its stands the its a really handy number
