Title: Pirates 15mm army

Busy getting the figures painted for November.

Started with the government troops, these would make a great unit or two for an AWI army.

Thanks Les, I thought you had the figures when you volunteered to run the game.

Where is the fun in already having the figures  ;D

Work for my Somme game is stalled at the moment due to work but after 4th October will be in full production.

Stewart, I may need some British from you, maybe 4-5 units of infantry. I may get enough painted in time but it'll help if I know you have some on standby.

Les,

Are you just doing the land raid, or the sea game too?

I'm really looking forward to playing this as I've wanted to play Pieces of Eight for years but never got around to doing it.

To keep it simple just the land game.

The sea game was an earlier version of the first edition of  Hammerin iron.  As this has been revised at least twice it has become a very outdated.

Martin is hoping to update the rules so i was only going to play the land raid.

I suspect we will have time to play several games in the time slot!!

It will allow players to play both sides.

Ooh - an update of the rules could offer all sorts of possibilities!

I've often wondered about a semi-strategic game with pirate bases / towns / forts from which to conduct raids on others' ships and bases (a more grown-up and wargaming version of something resembling Waddingtons' Buccaneer board game - apparently known as "Trade Winds" in the US).

Perhaps a Hammerin' Iron-style hex mat (smaller hexes for more granularity?) allowing folk to place islands / coastline / bases on top whilst allowing lots of sea room for manoeuvering...?

Would this kind of idea - particularly if it were multi-player as Buccaneer is - be too off-beat for an RFCM product?

The new sea game (when it arrives) will use a square grid and some clever twisting of the winds.  squares are easy to do albeit there are lots of mat printers about.

Had several land games some odd bits, but as Martin commented on Sunday "it does need updating".

So another project will be heading for Martins work bench.

But the games we all had over the piggy week end were fun.

Thanks to all who played and to Nigel in the PP workshop for the terrain.

YesLes, you are correct. A new Pieces of Eight would be a "soon"  thing.  I liked your PP   POE army and "inhabitants".

It was great Les and the figures were lovely. You should get some pictures up on here or on the PP website.
