Set out at 4am this morning in two vehicles.
Roads seemed quite quiet. But then it was early.
We are set up with the stand and the game here at Excel.
The wi fi has a good signal.
Parking was easy.
We needed to move some beds, of all things! To get the stand up.
The game is getting a few players. Those players mumble a bit but seem to have some good military knowledge.
Doors have been open for 20 minutes so I expect visitors are getting their goody bags at the door?
Does take a while for gamers to get to our stand.
Will check out the catering later too.
We do have about 5 show orders with us for collection as well.
martin
Did you get your own goodie bags on arrival, Martin?
I think it's a reusable mask, latex gloves (handy for airbrushing) and a plastic "gown" (or kitchen apron for latecomers) this year.
These are apparently already collectors' items and going for a small fortune on eBay.
Enjoy the day, but be careful who you shake hands with.
Simon
Stop teasing me. I was meant to be there.
I think a lot of us were going there or some other shows this year !
Do you think Colours for Ascot will be on ?
Me personally think that will be a no no....
Miles
The following is all guesswork!
My guess would be that Colours on 12th September will be on.
Also RCW day will be on for 3rd October?
Not sure if SELWG at Crystal Palace is doing one last year before moving.
I think Reading warfare is doing one last year at Rivermead before moving to Ascot in 2021.
Crisis in Antwerp for November has just been cancelled. That was a big and important (premier) show for Europe.
Crisis will probably be much diminished in future years (2021onwards) due to the Uk leaving the EU. But then no details of new trading arrangements have been agreed yet.It might be just as easy to trade in Europe or maybe not??
Miniature wargames magazine is attempting to set up a new show at Alexandra Palace. Sadly I can only give it a 50% chance of happening.
In the USA Historicon is still going ahead at the moment, July. That might change in the next few weeks.
I feel that the hobby and our little gaming world has been hit very hard indeed.
It will recover I hope, but some older/more ill gamers will miss their last year or two of gaming.
Just one of those random unavoidable events. Nobody's fault. :)
martin
I have cancelled the Bovington show in July, hopefully the Weymouth games weekend will be on in November if the hotel wants us and the attendees want to go.
Weymouth weekend should be something to really look forward to Stewart.
We can each be in a separate room and video chat the moves?
martin
Correction Martin.
Warfare is due to be at Ascot Racecourse this year 2020.
Also Tabletop Gaming already has a show at Alexandra Palace and this incorporates Miniature War-games. Is this the show you mean, if so this is due in September for its third year. Last I heard they were still selling tickets for it.
John
Hopefully the WWW is still on ? I ve booked the time off for that weekend.
I meant warfare at Ascot earlier. I think the main problem at these shows is the social distancing that's what is going to let's us not do and attend these shows this year ? But as long as companies like PP and others can keep production going, we can at least keep buying and painting.
I hope Peter and his family can keep Entoyment alive ? Then we have somewhere to game ? Once this gets better.
Miles
I think Entoyment should be fine if they get a lump sum for the business rates and furlough payments. They might get some money if Peter is self employed too?
I wish them luck as they have provided a gaming resource never seen before in the South :)
PP is coping well financially thanks to the government furlough and rates grant. This is of no consolation to all those losing jobs and lives though. I am very grateful for the money we are getting , but still lament the destruction of the economy.

I spent the 18th thinking about Salute over the years. I was one of the organising team for the first one in April 1972, in the room above the Surrey Tavern pub at the Oval and have missed only one (1979, I was two hundred miles away with a broken leg - a pretty feeble excuse I realise). Having been so involved with the event over the years it felt quite strange not to be there on the Friday for the set up and the actual event. I kept thinking, 'we have most of the trade in now', 'the doors will be open in ten minutes, are gangways clear', etc.
The announcement from SELWG earlier this year was that there wouldn't be a show this year and that it would restart in 2021 at a new venue.
Given the state of my health, I think it will be quite some time before I would risk going to a show, much as I'm missing wargames and model railway shows.
Brian
Good insight Brian.
My , you are old :)
Yes but you sill never catch us up Martin.
So, Brian have you written your summary of the highlights for each Salute over the last 48 events?
Martin - Expect me to address you as 'young man' from now on :)
Brian
OK Pop :)
Leslie
I'm afraid not though I have programmes dating back to 1978. And sadly my memory is going now that I'm sooooo old ;)
There is a good archive of photos for 2013 - 2019 at:

Very good quality pictures. At full size a lot of figure detail can be seen. Using a modern phone i suspect?
