Folks, I know versions of this questions have been asked before but have lapsed & are buried in the forum.
So what are your favourite Peter Pig rules. (You actually play them). PICK UP TO 3... and maybe add how many painted figures (factions too if you are so inclined) you have for that set of rules.
I realize people may choose other rules... then take ONE vote for OTHER.
Thanks
Bob
I play all the rules apart from fantasy and have at least two forces for each rule set.
Stewart
OOER - somebody mentioned factions. That'll have martin spluttering over his Cornflakes. My favourite armies are my ACW western theatre troops, and my British, German and Belgian 1914 troops.
Favourite - Square Bashing, I've armies for early war British, German and Belgian.
Bayonet and Idealogy - republican, nationalist.
Regiment of Foote - Royalist, Parliament, Scot's Covenanters, Montrose.
Also have a lot of Ak47 forces, and PITS forces.
I have a few other RFCM rule sets too, but not gamed them yet.
Nick
Is it possible to differentiate between different versions? I much prefer RoFv1 to RoFv2
No prob can't differentiate , maybe the admin.... mostly to get an idea of the period.
But no one actually using the poll itself!
Bob
The Poll button was not obvious.
It is part of the heading.
I clicked on the word "POLL"
That help?
martin
Now, who said faction? :) It should be "warband" , "cabal" , "spatula", "harem" or "gang" now. Cool! :)
Ah seems since i selected , don't show till they vote....it never showed up for people to vote....i think... should be fixed.
I voted CWB, PBI and Washington's Army. I have substantial ACW forces (both sides), both sides for AWI but not huge. PBI though..... Desert Rats, Afrika Korps, Greek, Japanese, US airborne, US European, British Italian campaign, Red Berets, Mid war eastern front Germans, Normandy Germans, mid/late war Russians. Those are the painted ones. I also have late war Germans, winter 44 US, Finns, another Japanese, partisans and Italians unpainted.
My lead mountain should shrink with the curfew over the next few weeks/months/years.
Keep well
John
This is a bit like choosing a favourite child.
I have played every set Martin has produced, apart from Warfare in the Age of Magic, although I do own them. When I say every set, I mean going back in time to the first rules produced under the RFCM banner.
I have 'Ancients' by the Effing Levellers
I have Bloody Cauldron for the RCW
I have Search and Destroy for Vietnam
I have Lincoln's War for the ACW
I have the Star Fighter rules (AD2222?)
I think the only sets I am missing are 'Hoka Hey' and the original PBI which I think were not on squares and aimed at 20mm figures.
As for favourites I have chosen Civil War Battles, Washingotns Army and Battles in the Age of War - mainly because they are my favourite periods. However, I truly enjoy every set of rules, to the extent that I have played little else historical for years apart from a couple of games of Bolt Action and Black Powder.
Figure wise I have multiple armies for every current set of rules produced...
Yes a difficult choice, I'll probably go
1: SquareBashing - I had always been cynical about using grids or square, got that wrong. I have EW & LW Germans, EW & LW British, LW French, Russians and RCW would like to add some Belgium, Turk, and Austrian armies.
2 : Civil War Battles - I have more then enough troops for both sides but just think it is a great game win or lose.
3: Washingtons Wars - I have both sides again, nice uniforms different theatres of war line troops, lights, militia some cavalry whats not to like.
I would probably have to put Spanish Civil War and Samurai up with them. The perfect Saturday on the games weekend would be playing 1 & 2 plus either AWI, SCW or Samurai.

Goodness Sean. Either you have been wargaming since you were in nappies or you are as old as Methuselah.
John
1) PBI - best PP Airborne & LW, German DAK & LW, US Airborne & LW, and Dutch KNIL.
2) SCW - easy to play with quirky looking vehicles and Assault Guards in their relaxed Iberian uniforms.
3) Dark Ages - "Longships - Wrath of the Vikings". Versatile rules which I have used for a campaign and extra large battles. Saxon, Carolingian and Irish armies. 6 x PP Longships look nicely menacing rowing up a river near you.
I wouldn't say no to a game of Pirates; Ship or Shore, or ACW; good old school rule system, with my mid -war Union Army in winter greatcoats (painted and sold by Chris), or ECW - both sides but not Scots, sorry.
or Western with my Mexicans - ride like the wind (guacamole and re-fried beans....).
Just building a Colonial army for PITS. British in Khaki vs Dervish Camelry. Also fahzands of Zulus and soon some Boers and once we get back to gaming again, I hope to use PITS or Western rules for the South African campaigns.
I think the best 5 would have been better. 3 is too narrow a list. Hammering Iron and Pirates would have gone on my list as well.
After playing Pits the other day I fancy exploring what other 19th C warfare it could be used for, namely Westerns.

Ah - so having seen the results you want to change the rules now, Miles? :D
Miles..ok I will come clean as to wht this is the way it is...
But ...Much chuckling coming from the corner here... i wanted to see if people would have to nash there teeth to come up with there top three as compared to just list all of theres.
In my case P Pig rules just are not widely seen out here...and in the past i have picked up 3 different sets (while at Brookhurst hobbies only to put them back down & walk away. So I started this having bought two sets finally from brookhurst (thinking hey these aren't bad). Oh grid, squares...hmm i can imagine what my gaming buddies are going to say... AND then i ordered a bolshevick army (and painted it) (a big thing as i usually only do 25-28's & am far from anything described as a fast painter.
So i ordered 3 more from the P Pig web site ...in paper (still haven't seen them & waiting patiently) so while waiting i ordered 2 more in PDF... and i really want to see the new Bloody Barons... so I did the poll....thinking "Hi my name is Bob & I have a rules fascination problem"..... But wanted to see what others on this forum had to say. (Happy to now think I am quite normal)
Happy to play a good game, want to have fun, argue not at all...and just enjoy things... which i think i am going to a lot. Plumbing tools like big pipe wrenches are for convincing your gaming buddies to give it a try...😇
Nic one Bob. On the no arguments subject Martin taught me an important lesson. That is to tell your opponent what you are doing when you move troops. i.e. I have moved my infantry unit up towards your artillery but they are just outside short range. That way your intention is made clear even if your fumbling fingers can't cope with the accuracy of the move.
John
I like Hammerin' Iron - have a lot of ships for both sides.
Western - a number of different forces
Pieces of Eight - two fleets, pirate land force and working on the defenders
Also love Samurai, Longships, Washington's Army and Spanish Civil War
Bob,
This did cause mashing of teeth, and to be honest yesterday's choice is probably different to tiday or tomorrow's choice.
Interesting thread and discussion though 👍
Ok 23 members have voted s far.... i wanted to bring this back & see if we can get any more votes as the choices are fascinating ... any one want to change... now that Bloody Barons are out.
Bob
Pirates is the correct one.
Hammerin Iron is my top one and I have a reasonable collection for it
PBI comes second and I use my FoW forces in that so can manage a couple of armies (Hungarian and Soviets) plus clubmates have all sorts to use.
SCW is my favourite rule set, but the one played the most indoors is PBI over 20 games this year.
David & Ben
Part of the reason this is so hard, is you can only have forces and armies for so many rule sets. My time over the years has been limited, so to try and game/paint and live a life, working and being married etc. I think a lot of us obviously have the same commitments or similar.
A lot of us try and play these games as they come out every year etc, but there is always some that hit the heart more than others. So with that in mind, 3 game choice is very hard.
PBI is very big on the list, as is AK47( but which version ? ) Hammering Iron I am glad to say is up there. As with Pirates, CWB, Vietnam and no doubt Bloody Barons will be up there if re done for next year.
Another thing that has been touched on, I myself i am starting this as well, making forces for multiple games and systems. Obviously being a PP fan it is easier, as Martin uses the 3x3 base mainly throughout. I ve said for years a person who plays FoW with little adjustments can use his mainly infantry as well as a selection of supporting weapons and vehicles to play PBI.
It's nice to see this list was created from member's across the globe.
Miles
I haven't voted as I have only really played Bloody Barons (1st edition) and PBI 1st edition.
I also own Square Bashing (newer version), PITS and AK47.
Being of a heretical nature I have to say Bloody Barons didn't really float my WoTR boat (I have yet to find a ruleset that does), I found PBI a bit clunky and ended up rebasing my figures for Flames of War which I grew to dislike with a passion.
Square Bashing looks very interesting but I would have to provide two armies and don't have the time to do all the painting.
Hence no vote from me... sorry :(
I gave up playing Peter Pig rules once they became gridded so I could only vote for 2 sets. Love the figures not interested in the rules. I am building up forces for the Spanish Civil War but will play this with Battlefront Early War rules and the Spain in Flames Supplement. There is some support at the club for ECW hopefully using the By Fire and Sword rules and all the figures I have for this so far are Peter Pig as well.
