This might be obvious , but that has not stopped me previously. :)
Salute is cancelled.
Exeter is cancelled
Bovington may well be on, as it is July 11th
Colours at Newbury 12th September. I hope all is settled by then (?)
The above are shows that Peter Pig attends.
Of course there are many others shows too.
Maybe members will keep the group updated for better or worse.
martin
Bovington tank museum is closed in line with government guidelines.
12 weeks is the middle of June.

I spoke to Laurence about Partizan (May) , he was 99.9% sure it would be cancelled but they are leaving the official announcement until 2nd April
Whilst reflecting on the future of shows. I thought I would elicit some thoughts from the group.
Bearing in mind it is mostly guessing, we can still air some thoughts.
None of this is guaranteed?
1. Some shows will find the re-start difficult, as there might be a reluctance of older gamers and traders to take any risks. This would affect shows in 2021. Moreso the larger shows which have bigger financial weight.
2. Some groups who cannot get together, might delay their next "great game" . This might mean they do not appear during 2021 or maybe offer a more modest/repeat game. Not necessarily a bad thing.
3. Traders may find that some customers are moving permanently online for some shows. By this I mean that a gamer who attends 4 specific shows a year might cut that to 2 or 3 and write one or two off as being not worth the risk.
4.There will be plenty of face masks at any show held in the remains of 2020. If there is pressure to wear face masks ,many may decide not to bother with that show.
5.Catering may be affected. More pre-packaged items?
6.New ranges will not be slowed down, as most of the work is done in smaller workshops or remotely.
7. There will be some surprise shortages, as particular companies suddenly disappear. Maybe due to virus death of the owners or virus financial back breaking.
8.Some new companies will arise as a result of greatly increased unemployment.
9.Some venues may suddenly decide on piling on costs for "extra healthcare", "distancing admin" etc. This might break some shows.
10. Quite a few traders are in the high risk group (or feel they are) and may decide not to attend shows. Especially in the light of the market continuing move on to the internet.
11. Social media pressure using words such as "irresponsible", "Gestapo","coward" affecting attendance either up or down (witness the historicon discussion).
The above are just thoughts and reflections to initiate discussion.
None are meant to upset or offend members.
martin
I can see some traders re-evaluating the shows they attend o a profit over risk basis. So they might go to Salute, Colours and Warfare because the profits are good, but not bother with smaller shows with a lower return even though the venue is closer to home. Attending shows for "goodwill" is likely to disappear.
Also perhaps larger shows may have to pre sell tickets and make the event entry by ticket only, with numbers strictly limited by the size of venue. This should not be too difficult for organisers as it already happens in the entertainment industry, but I can see that it may be a bit of a culture shock for the average warmer, many of whom rock up on spec to shows. It could also lead to some shows being cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
Hey ho
John
The times they are a changing? ::)
martin
Yes, I suspect this could mark the end of a number of shows that just won't come back again.
Nick
I have booked Bovington show next year , Saturday 10th July 2021.
Will need to sell about 20 tables to break even any more will be a bonus and the money goes to charity (British Legion, Weymouth veterans hub).
Stewart
Traders may have to put up Perspex sneeze guards like all the shops are doing now.
Stewart, TFL have expressed an interest in attending the next show, maybe worth contacting them.
Transport For London?
Interesting :)
martin
Sorry Les, don't know who TFL are
Stewart
Stewart,
They run the Tube and buses in London (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-52670539).
I hear they are running short of funds, but driving all the way down to Bovvie to raise a few quid sounds a little drastic.
Simon
Ah yes, I have heard about the 'Big Red One' that people want to ride
Stewart
Sorry Les, just teasing :) Beware of TLAs. martin
Stewart you have, you know who the TWOFATLARDIES are, you're teasing!
Never heard of the Two Fat Lardies.
Found it
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Fat_Ladies
martin :)
Too Fat Lardies , if Sharp Practice and Chain of command fame ?
"Fame"? Not Infamy?
Enough fun. Stop it matron. :)
martin
"Out with it, what's your objection? Come on, let's have all of it, come on let's have it."
Well, it starts with "just having fun" and quickly leads on to "enjoying yourself" then can go as far as "feeling good". Surely we don't want to encourage that sort of thing in the ranks? :)

martin
Absolutely not - whatever next?!
Oh, I've heard of the TOO Fat Lardies. But not the TWO Fat Lardies.
I think Martin has it right. It's A bingo call for 88 isn't it?
I thought it was another name for the 'Dorset cake and biscuit club' that used to meet at martins before the travel and meeting restrictions came in force.

Notwithstanding the upbeat note on Colours' own website [https://nrwc.org.uk/colours-2020], it was announced on TMP yesterday that Newbury Colours 2020 has been cancelled: http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=531742
Probably no great surprise, but sad nonetheless.
Simon
As you say, it's disappointing but not unexpected - notwithstanding the uncertainty about what things will be like in September, there's a lot of organisation that goes on in the preceding months that cannot now take place.
Fingers crossed for Partizan2 in October.
Disappointing, but not really a surprise.
Nick
It is a shame, the year is slipping away and the events continue to be cancelled.
But on the positive side, Martin's recent output is prodigious, and when we're not travelling / playing, we can all make scenery and paint toys. I wouldn't want this to go on for too long, but it's not all bad news.
Simon
Colours cancelled. Shame but expected. Not heard any thing direct from them yet, so they might be doing a "postponed" action similar to Salute. Salute are keeping the cheques, but also guaranteeing the same stand and costs as 2020 but "transported" to 2021.
I would guess that all shows for the remainder of 2020 will be cancelled. That way we can pretend 2020 never happened in terms of gaming shows and start again in 2021.
I think that a wargames show for Alexandra Palace was planned as well, but not heard any progress reports on that.
martin
Like Simon says, I think plan for next year when it comes to shows.
It has been quite a productive time, especially for my Western stuff. Learned a lot about doing desert/hot like scenery.
It's finding the time, as some of are still working and not from home. Now I am havin the work done for my other cabin to be put in place hopefully next week.
So I will have extra storage area and a playing area.👍👍👍👌
Miles
Sounds good Miles. Put up a photo Miles ,maybe of your new gaming area?
martin :)
My hope for this year is the Crete day and the Weekender. I can put up with all shows cancelled, but give me these!
Oh and the RCW day too...but September is looking dogy with Colours now gone too.
I would hope the WWW is still on. But we shall see. We might have to shift the dates of the Crete Practice day and RCW day ???
From a personal point of view, I am aiming for February next year as the first Gaming show (Beachead)to be able to go to at BIC. Which would be Ironic from a personal point of view as it was the first and last one for me This Year !

I'm with you on this Sean!
Simon
Martin, if the Alexander Palace show you are referring to is the Tabletop Gaming Live show in September, it was cancelled about two weeks ago.
At the moment I am hoping that Warfare at Ascot Racecourse will go ahead in November, but I hold out little hope for anything sooner than that.
Belgian Lanchester is due to be finished today or tomorrow.
I am also hoping to get the old table tennis table out in the garden for a war-game or two if the weather stays fair.
John
That was the one John. Sad to see any show go. Events dear boy?
Warfare, indeed a tricky one. My guess is a no. But that is a guess. Probably linked to whether horse racing returns to full crowd or not. Horse racing does have a lot of sway with the political elite though (plus royals and other hangers on too).
Get that AC done ASAP John! :)
martin
Last show was Vapnartak. Have a feeling that the next one might be Vapnartak too
