Title: Salute 2020
Post by: pbeccas (Paul) on March 10, 2020, 08:28:36 AM
Any news on Salute for 2020?  No fears of it closing due to the greatest media hyped flu of all time?

All tricky I believe.
Here goes my guess (with no knowledge whatsoever!!).

Prediction
Salute will run. :)
Peter Pig will be one of only three traders present.
The show will be held in the dark.
The Peter Pig Pirate land raid game will be one of only two games at the show.
Mike, Nigel and Julie will be wearing WW2 Home guard gas masks.
Martin will have smeared himself with Marmite, as a friend of a friend said it cures all know diseases (excellent at club night too).
Takings might be down? :-[

Martin will cough on Marmite fumes and be escorted from the premises by men in white biohazard suits...

I wasn't planning on going this year. No doubt on Salute Eve I will start pacing up and down, ruminating  whether to make the long drive down. If it is cancelled (I hope for everyone's sake it isn't,  and is a roaring success) I will at least be able to enjoy the weekend  without constantly thinking 'should've gone to Salute'

I haven't been to Salute for many years, around thirty, and as I'm in the "at risk group" I'm considering my attendance at shows later this year. I'll be at Hammerhead (Newark) this coming Saturday, supporting my friends game.

May's Partizan is in doubt, the organisers have posted an update about the upcoming show.

Best wishes,

To make maximum profit our stand is also stocking rubber gloves and alcohol rubs. In case the problem is less than expected the gloves can be used for (suggestions?)  and the rubs for (suggestions?).

You could suck the alcohol out of the wipes/rub - probably considerably cheaper than buying a pint in that there London

See, every cloud has silver lining.

I have read online, can't remember where, of someone using alcohol gel with inks to improve flow etc. I haven't tried it myself but I do add a couple of drops of Iso Propyl Alcohol (IPA) to diluted ink washes to lower the surface tension and improve flow.

Gloves are useful for paint spraying and other modelling tasks.

South London Warlords posted this on their Facebook page a few days ago

"A few people have been asking about Salute 2020 in the face of the Coronavirus situation.

To be clear, we are continuing with Salute as planned.

The only way Salute will not go ahead is if Excel, the venue, stop it as result of government advice on such events.  From what we can see from official advice at this time, this looks most unlikely.

Excel have not cancelled any shows and have no intention of doing so.  They have instigated additional deep cleaning and similar measures as many public places have.

We will of course keep a close eye on the situation.

Thanks
South London Warlords"

Interesting. I suspect that things may move quite quickly - if gatherings of 1,000 or more are banned, Salute won't happen.

Many of our clients are banning international travel - and even between offices in London. I was with an organisation this afternoon that is making contingency plans for their staff to work from home for several months, and for things not to get back to normal for maybe more than a year.

It could be time for us all to stock up on Piggie goodness if we're in this for the long haul!

Great news.  I would have been super annoyed if I travelled from Australia and the event was cancelled.

Peak levels are expected in the next two weeks. If we move to delay during that period....I think Salute is in real jeopardy.

And anyone coming in from overseas may well be quarantined for 14 days on arrival in any case  ;)

I'm sneaking in under the channel.  You Brits are going to regret building that tunnel.

You'd have to go via France. They currently have more cases than we do...

You won't get through, it is where the UK Government has stored the countries emergency supply of Roast Beef!

After being a smarty pants I'm afraid to say we are cancelling our trip to France and England.

Australia is about to ban travel from Europe.  Anyone coming in to Australia has to go into quarantine for 14 days.

All this means our travel insurance is now void.

I'm really sad I'm going to miss Salute.  I was really looking forward to it.  I've also blown $3000 on flights.  Qatar airways will give us a voucher to The same value to be used within 12 months.

That is a crying shame - very sorry to hear that.

I've heard of at least one big trade fair that has been switched from physical to virtual. Maybe Salute will be online this year?

The Photography show at Birmingham NEC, a week long show which was supposed to kick off in a couple of weeks has been postponed. Slightly different circumstances as a high number of foreign exhibitors.

So things are beginning to shut down/change

On the plus side, my wallet has breathed a sigh of relief

They have cancelled public attending football matches here.  And they cancelled the local marathon as well.

Apparently London Excel is being considered as a potential field hospital to treat Covid-19 patients...

Lots of changes going on...there is in some areas an emergency  plea going around for 3d printing parts for medical face shields...

Some provinces here even starting to ask for all non emergency travel between cities & provinces be halted.

UK has now effectively gone into lockdown. Wherever possible stay home for three weeks, schools effectively closed until September. All non-essential shops closed, no public gatherings, apart from family only funerals, and so on.
