I thought it would be good for people to note down any rules within PBI that they think others would benefit from being reminded of.
Not much worse than the great reveal that was unexpected by the opponent.
Her are a few I have been shown recently.
1. Mortar hits upon a square. 1st and 2nd roll 2D6 per target base. 3rd hit pins the square down. All more hits ignored.
2. Company commander does not initiate shooting but can respond. He can also be a target for opp shooting.
3. Mortar commander must be in proximity to mortars if he is directing fire. In addition he may not move at all in that turn.
Return fire and opportunity fire. Roll one die for each base wishing to fire, not one die for the whole square (which I think was the case in the old PBI). Each 5 or 6 allows 1 base to fire. Firer chooses which bases will fire.
Good note John. Especially that the owner chooses which base to shoot. Good for MG armed sections.
Short range is all 8 squares surrounding (in proximity).
To pin is 5 or 6
To unpin 4, 5 or 6
Have I got that right?
Also, I think an article on infantry tactics, pertinent to PBI would be useful for the Mill.
I'm not volunteering, as I am not an expert and too busy writing my campaign system for Vietnam for issue 5 😁
Very correct. But an officer in the square makes unpinning successful on 3,4,5,6.
wundebar ;D
Make the tea, provide some biscuits and play nicely.
Use large clear dice, state what your rolling for before you roll!
Also in pinning depends on the class, veteran 4,5,6, average 5,6 and raw 6.
Opportunity is dice for each base that is eligible to fire in that square on the Faces only. Or as Martin puts it ? How many Shootie things you have ?
Miles
Miles, I think that was the older set of rules, latest set (2015) its 4+ to unpin, 3+ if officer in square regardless of quality

Glad we are all getting back to boot camp, ready to invade in January 1940 (2020)
I need new knees if we're going on a squad run
I have discovered that the old (pre-2015) notion of "closed squares") is still going strong, and led me to fruitless searches in the current ruleset...
3 elements of infantry combat, 1. suppression fire. 2. Manouver elements, 3. Breach assault.
I agree Clay. :)
Being British I am not invading in January! The French invited us to their Country......
Just Saying, Miles
