Title: Vapnartak 2020
Post by: Radar on December 14, 2019, 09:32:04 AM
The shows list on the  PP website only shows 2019 dates. Whilst thinking about 2020 is a little depressing when there is still a chunk of 2019 still to go, having Vapnartak on the horizon is a great goal to have when the last of the turkey has been gobbled and the tinsel has returned to the loft.

Will the PP pantechnicon be heading north in February next year?

Sadly I cannot afford to attend York.
It is a great show.  It is well organised by a jolly team of chaps who are helpful in every way. They always help us put our game table back after foundry have moved it out of their way too.

The problem is that our basic costs of travel, wages and overheads do not cover the takings at the show. Our takings are declining at shows. This is due to gamer preference for 28mm skirmish, plus competition from Flames of war , plastics etc.  In the last 3 years we have lost money each time.

:(

York goes like this
Stand fee £130 (very reasonable)
Wages £180
Petrol £120
Accommodation and food £150

Sales in 2019 at York = £480

Loss= £100

Wages and travel push us into the loss. These factors cannot be changed because we are so far away.  If York were just 100 miles away, then that would be good news for us. But that is not York's fault.

That's a shame, but totally understandable.

That is a sad state of affairs, Martin. But good to hear what a nicely-run show Vapnartak is - I've never been.

The upside is that it frees up a weekend for sculpting / rules writing / gaming - or maybe even for the occasional well-earned rest?

Hi, as a member of York Wargames Society I'm very sorry that Peter Pig won't be coming to Vapnartak in 2020. The show will be that much poorer. However, I quite understand the situation and hope we will see you in the North again at some future point.

So John lets hope you will be waving the PP flag with a couple of PP games.

Not this year I'm afraid Leslie. We did a Tank racing game a couple of years ago using BAIT which Martin came to see. Unfortunately at my club the only 15mm gaming you see is your regular SCW game plus what ever else I can persuade people to play. It's almost exclusively 28mm games these days I'm afraid.

I fully understand why Martin PP don't want to attend in 2020. I was only thinking last week what the demo game would be and what could I order for collection as it's the only show I regularly visit that PP did attend. I'll have to revisit my plans for 2020. :'(

Which shows will PP be at in 2020?

Unfortunately it's the use of 28mm and some 20mm and the internet has killed a lot of these shows for someone like myself. Luckily down South we have PP 45 miles away and Entoyment 15miles away and the internet for anything else. A lot of these places do free or very reasonable PandP charges.
Must admit though As Colours is going to Ascot this 2020, I might go as it's only up the M3. If you need a hand Martin ?

Miles,
It's Warfare (formerly in Reading) that's going to Ascot in 2020.

As far as I know,  Colours will still be at Newbury.

Both are of course at the racecourse!

I have very much enjoyed visiting the York show over the years but due to mounting fuel costs have cut back on my visits. Peter Pig in attendance have always been a pull for me, especially with the generous 10% discount but didn't put a pre-order in this year. I suspect if I had done Martin would have at least broken even 😞

York is one of the best, if not the best shows, for smaller sizes of figures. Probably the best turn out of 15mm manufacturers at one of the current shows. Donnington, Museum, Magister Militum as well as Peter Pig present last year, that I remember (mainly because I made purchases at all four).

I actually prefer it to the behemoth that is Salute.

I knew it was one of them. Other than Beachead and Salute(sometimes) Bovington and the old Weymouth I ve stopped going to shows because of the above reasons.

I will no longer be attending shows as I am now saving like a madman to be able to emigrate to the mainland.

Leman, you could always try another island / Ireland then you wouldn't even need to learn a different language

Dang... this is the one UK show I may be able to make this year and it would have saved me postage (but I likely would have bought way more stuff from in person)...

Glad to see the York show was a success. I have seen some pictures online and they look really good. Well done York! :)

I managed to get to it - it was the right area of the country for me and I was here so did a quick write-up here: https://mellis1644.wordpress.com/2020/02/04/vapnartak-2020-and-adlg/

I hope this weekends show is as good, as it would have been nice to attend that but can't.

Vaonartak is usually the start of my show going season but that's now delayed until Alumwell this year.
