Title: Modifying AK-47 for Multi-players Convention
Post by: Lighthorse on December 08, 2019, 09:14:08 AM
Subject:Modifying AK-47 for Multi-players Convention Game.
Starting to paint up my latest order from Peter Pig, this will give me more than enough to field two AK-47 armies of 1000 pts each.Thinking that I could divide 1000pts into 3 commands, thus having 6 players for this monster game, Two flank commands will get 300pts/3+ units each and the center overall commander will have 400pts/4+ units(also control off board assets)
Plan to increase the turns count to from 24 to 32 - 36 points.Since this will be a convention game, I will set one side as defender (African with Arab support forces) and other as outside western forces attacking, (USA Marines and French F Legion, main force as African nation). Thinking also to give each player special conditions/orders, like "fire engagement orders..only can return fire, if fire upon."
Increase the area of the gaming map from 6ft x 3ft to 8ft x 4ft, have all terrain 8 or 9 per side, allowing players to lay them out as per AK-47 rules, along with victory locations.Allowing thinking of using to 2x USA helicopters as gunships, but also allow them to drop 6 infantry stands behind enemy lines...still thinking on how that may work.Have anyone else modified AK-47 rule for large multi-players games?Any helpful suggestions?
We're tried playing AK-47 with 500 pts per side with four players, that work out fine. Attached photo of that game

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this. I have seen old AK47 used for some huge multi player games in the past.

Pictures and table size suggests Reloaded.

I've just found my 1st Edition and the supplement. I'd forgotten there were more army types in the supplement. A really nice little booklet.

I have some news on Enfilade 2020. On April 2th, 2020, Enfilade 2020 has been cancelled due to corona virus outbreak.
I have wrote up about playtesting AK-47 first scenario and why it took a few games before it was finish.
My second scenario Modern Africa, Gold Rush, never had a chance to playtest it. Send it too. If anyone does play it, I would love to know how it turn out.

I send both scenarios and photos to Martin/PPM and he may publish them or not in Mill.
My local group of gamers and myself enjoyed AK-47 and I had fun painting up all those figures for it.
Stay at Home and safe

Enfilade 2021 is on for Labor Day in September.
I have saved my notes from last year for an AK-47 republic scenario.
Have scheduled this scenario for September 4, 2021. For 6 players.
Have 3 hours and 50 minutes for game time.
Have painted up additional ISIS Arab troops for the warlord side.
Play test in Summer at my friend place.
Also will do a Hammerin' Iron Scenario.
And three other scenarios for the convention.
One is Lion Rampant, Crusader States supplement.
Second is The Men who would be Kings, relief of an afghan hill fort.
Third Musket and Tomahawk, supplement Shako and Bayonets. French trying escape a Spanish and British trap.

I enjoy giving back to wargaming hobby by doing these scenarios at convention.

Hope to see one or two of you there.

Yes, that is some workload.

Regarding your ideas on how to run the game, I wouldn't worry too much about following the game set side of things. With 6 players I imagine chaos will ensue fairly quickly and games with 6 players need some pace to them to keep everyone engaged.

One small comment. Do you need to use ISIS, or could it be some generic, made up group? I only ask because real world politics might put some people off from playing what is normally portrayed as fictional African States. Of course, it is your game and if you wish to have that element of realism then great!

So just have at it, throw the dice and see what happens! One thing is for sure in a game of AK.... your players will have a blast.

Thanks for your remarks gentlemen.Thinking that just calling them a group of crazy Arabs. that should work.
Little War TV.com is offering a prize for best wargaming you-tube video, so I'm thinking of filming all five games at the convention. Each game should be about 2 minutes long, quick introduction, the players with first names, forces, and few quick review of action about on turn 1, 3, 5, 7 or so on. Then a review of the win and why. I'm film it with my smart phone camera.

Unfortunately have lost a lot of the pictures of that game ?

Two of those are from the weekender where I played Mike Coaker. Had a great time with it.

I am planning a small solo campaign late summer, as there is unrest in the Republican Democracy of uMbongo over FIFA throwing out the national football team from the Qualifying competition for the 2022 World Cup. The uMbongo manager apparently was caught in a compromising position with the wife of the opposition leader, Col. TumTum, and she in turn had been involved in a clandestine meeting with a FIFA official over financial irregularities when the team were due to play a friendly against Chaz, their northern neighbours. Chaz in turn had tried to bribe the FIFA official with uncut diamonds, which would have been okay, but they turned out to be cubic zirconia.

It's all rather convoluted, but Col. TumTum is accusing President Chumbawumba's administration of corruption and mishandling of the matter and the population of uMbongo want answers. They accept corruption... Its the getting caught that they don't like.

The BBC have sent Brian Thomas, their Central African correspondent, to report on the tense situation. More soon...

Enfilade 2021 is on for September 2 - 5th, 2021.
As for AK-47 Republic 6 players game I will be GM, it is filled by per-registration.Here my game description.
There an Ebola outbreak in central Africa state, but local warlord stops all relief efforts. UN has organizes multi-national force to go in and help. The Warlord has organizes his guard & local militia, call in ISIS for assistance and other bad actors. The Rumors that the Chinese and/or Russians....
I have been forced to streamline AK-47 Republic game system somewhat so that six players(never played it before) can complete it with the convention time limit. Shall including pictures later after the convention.

Streamlining for a show game is always A good idea I think.
The scenario sounds good.

Do be careful about using ISIS as a term, because some folk will be upset and protest.
AK is generic in order not to give  folk the opportunity to be  offended.
Careful not to give them the opportunity to take their hurt to the local press etc.

I did some of what I set out to do. Ran all five games, and received best of show for a period for AK-47 and Lion Rampant. I'm started to video record my first game somewhat, when I'm realizes that there was no way I could GM and video at the same time. But a good friend of mine, Bryan did an awesome video and here it is; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-SdADVEXsg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-SdADVEXsg)

Nice Mediterranean buildings from the Drum. I have them for my Spanish Civil War collection.
