Title: New Item icon
Post by: FifteensAway on October 18, 2019, 03:05:58 AM
I know there is a NEW icon within any range that has new items added and that is great, love it.  But how about a home page icon that indicates something new within a range?  Not sure how much bother it would be but it might pay dividends.  I know I've found things useful to me in ranges I'm just not personally interested in.  Such an icon would clue me in to something I might not find for a very long time - if ever - since I'm not interested in that range but I'm always interested in something new.  Maybe off to the right of the bar for each range?

FifteensAway - that's why we post any new stuff on the News section of this Forum - you just need to make sure you come and visit every day!

I actually think Fifteens Away makes a fair point.
There must be many more visitors to the PP site than would ever look at this forum, and I must admit it is very difficult to quickly find out what is new on the PP site.

In fairness to PP, there is also a "New Things" section on the PP website, in red on the front page, which is generally populated when new stuff comes out.

Doesn't this pretty much answer the question?

I pushed the new things button and nothing happened.

It's not a button, but a banner. The new stuff is typically posted in the yellow box beneath it.

Please refer to John Watson's post today here:

for a credible explanation of why that yellow box is not currently populated.

Credible?  Um, humorous perhaps?

Visit every day?  Not likely.  Thus the reason for the request.  And how long is a new item up - when the yellow banner is populated?  If I haven't visited for a month will I still see what is new.  Of course, that may mean missing what I requested, of course, if I don't visit for that length of time.  While I've been visiting a lot lately it has been more because of joining this forum but it isn't a busy enough forum to necessarily sustain that rate of visitation, especially since it seems a significant portion of the forum focuses on Peter Pig rules and I haven't played any of those rules despite owning several sets.  Just not a thing locally.

You could also create The 15s Away Miniatures Company and then produce what you want as and when you want it. I believe Peter Pig operates within a capitalist economy which necessitates pleasing most of the customers most of the time in order to make a profit.

I also think some kind of indication next to the ranges in the main site would help. I remember having to comb the website to find the "Tirralliers Senegalese" because when they where announced there was no mention of what range they where from.

When new things are announced here (on the Forum News banner), we state the range and pack number, and include a hyperlink to the page on the PP website.

The post announcing the Tirailleurs Sénégalais was as follows:

#280: Les's WW1 Senegalese Tirailleurs (https://www.peterpig.co.uk/worldwar1.html)

But this does all take a little admin time. I'm happy to invest it here, and for Martin to spend his time making more toys for us instead.
