Title: Roman buildings
Post by: Sean Clark on August 09, 2016, 10:20:21 PM
I'm just about to finish Pagan Lord, book 7 of the Saxondale Chronicles but Bernard Cornwell.

There is quite a bit mentioned about old Roman buildings forming part of the settlements that Uhtred  passes through.

Has anyone else used any Roman type building sin their games of Longships? All of my buildings are the excellent ones produced by Peter Pig. But I do have a 15mm Roman Village from Gladiator Games I bought years ago that I might rough up a bit and use as one of the villages for my Vikings to raid.

The Roman buildings would be old (400 years) but the stone would have survived. Maybe new roofs and doors?

Yes they are looking rather intact at the moment. I'll have to weather them up a bit and see what they look like.

One way of doing it is to make the tile roofs look like thatch. Tiles are relatively fragile and would have been one of the first things to go. There is a photo doing the rounds at the moment of a game at the recent Claymore show, set in the Dark Ages, featuring a reoccupied Roman fort.
