Title: Engineer platoon
Post by: Colonel Kilgore on June 27, 2019, 06:43:36 AM
The PBI Company Architect force list book includes a generic Engineering Platoon.

I have found the rules for the flamethrower bases, but am stumped by the two allowable demolition team bases.

The book says that these bases are to be treated as ordinary riflemen "in the normal game".

Does this mean that there is a "special" game (I couldn't find reference in the special rules section)?

Or does "normal" refer to the rules as written (but making provision for such bases in cases players want to include scenario-specific rules, as did Big Mike in his Arnhem scenario)?

Have I perhaps missed the appropriate section in the rules themselves?

Or have I misunderstood completely?

Answers on a postcard, please!

I think you have it correct Simon. They are there in case the scenario or PBI player "house rules" includes the use of demolition teams.

PBI is basically a very simple game :-\ in my biased opinion. However all the little additions make it cover WW2 but do make the rules into a behemoth.  This is very satisfying for players who wish to bring out the differences . An example might be the short range and effect of the PIAT but the longer range and power of the German panzerschrek(bazooka).   The trouble arises when new players want to put all sorts of things (guns, tanks, veterans, off table assets et al) on the table for game one. They get bogged down in detail and move on to an easier game.

Maybe there is a need to promote the platoon V platoon games used at shows??

Particularly the SSPBI idea - I really like the dynamic of "collaborative" games.
