Title: What's new on the Peter Pig website
Post by: Colonel Kilgore on June 04, 2019, 10:47:42 PM
I do like the new painted-up Pirate looters on the website, Martin!

Is this a different painter than usual - seems like a different style and pallette?

I've not spotted anything else that's changed with this latest update, but no doubt there are some stealthy new releases in there somewhere...

Thank you for spotting it Simon.
There is some secret work going on at the moment (ooo!).  Announcement  end of next week. This is intended as a nice surprise for RFCM members.  You can have some fun guessing if you have the time though?

Also a special rifle armed Gendarme for the train wreckers gamette. Picture soon along with details of the gamette pack.
Edition 3 of the mill will be out this week too.

Very good news Martin!

I do have an idea (a guess - I obviously have no inside knowledge) of what the secret work might be, but wouldn't want to cause upset if I'm wrong.

Is this an "answers on a postcard" job, or are you inviting guesses here?

Simon

Ah I have broken the code!
Martin is releasing in magnificent 15mm "surround around" sculpting everyone of the Conservative party candidates for PM. Of course each pack will include Brexit achieved, Brexit failed and I've just met Trump versions.
Sorry to spoil your surprise Martin.

It's good to see the first details of The Mill 3 appearing on the PP website [https://www.peterpig.co.uk/the15MILL.html], including the figure pack details.

I'd thought that the latest magazine itself might be there too, but the link is currently to The Mill 1. I must learn patience...

Which won't stop me from looking forward to photos of the new French Gendarmes figures in due course :)

That Canadian cap would make very nice British home service units using the Sudan figures. Possibilities for TMWWBK Fench or German invasion of 1880s/90s Britain, or a bit of VSF.

While those new ACW generals, Burnside in particular, have some minor temptation, those longhorns already pried open the wallet.

As to the 'minor', I've been thinking of parting with my ACW collection - even though my first and still largest painted collection, it was really an 'adjunct' interest that I maintained because it was the 'big think' locally when I get into doing miniatures.

Not my paint job, though!

Fifteensaway,  the News is the first section on the home page of this Forum. There are usually half a dozen or more recent items: new figures or vehicles,  show announcements,  new rules... up there with links to the relevant section of the PP website or the Forum itself. You need to wait a few seconds for the next item to pop up.

Does that help?

Simon

I'm not sure how new this one is (it says it's "new" on the PP website :))), but I spotted some ACW camp followers today:

They don't look that camp to me, but maybe it comes down to how you paint them?

Either way, they could look great on a little command base diorama.

After a discussion with our French neighbour over an aperitif in the garden at a social distance she did not have any translation for 'pig sty'.

The nearest she had 'Souete de cochon' or 'cochon souette' but these so thought were patois for our region.

4. Crew. (Thinking man pack artillery or AT gun)
5. Engineers (flamethrower, satchel charges, mines)
6. HMG Firing
7. Platoon Command

Bonus Wish list - Company Command, NCO's, Mule Handlers with Mules, spotters.

What's your guess list?

Paul,

You are onto something here. I think we need all of your 7, plus recoilless rifle, plus weapon canisters plus parachute canopies.

I conclude that 7 are not enough and that we should all encourage Martin not to get too distracted by the Mexican Revolution just yet!

Martin of course might be missing out on an opportunity...he could almost see
What the bidding for new master 'slots' are worth in an auction....😀. But yes Paul's
List is a good one.

You are both right chaps.
I do try to manage expectation.
The figures are only just out of the master mould.
Mike does not have the production figures from which to make a mould yet.
The danger is that if I release a "forthcoming" list some  folk then assume it is all done and add requests on to that.
Your 7 are about correct Paul and Simon.
Seeing as it is only us three; here are the next 3.
1.  NCOs
2. Command
3. 81mm mortar

If all goes to plan(?) about 10 days away.
Thanks for the interest.

Why stop now? - you're just getting into the swing of things  :D

By the way, the gamette 6 Vikings are rather nice too - I do like the idea of keeping two for the gamette itself (possibly complemented by figures from the Dark Ages packs, which is what I'm doing to allow the ladies of the house to have a female figure each) and re-purposing the other two to mix in with Longships crews.

I can see those mail "trees" (for want of a better word - I'm sure someone can jump in and help me out here) appearing in camp dioramas too - a very useful pack for general gaming as well as the gamette itself. You may sell thousands?

I was (not very subtly, I accept) hoping that Marin might be persuaded to photograph his models henceforth with a dark wash, rather than a grey undercoat. The wash brings out so much more of the lovely sculpted detail, I feel.

I will now get back into my bunker and await the fallout...

I had not seen that.
Thanks for letting me know.
The problem is that the software is creaking a lot.

It is easy to set up website using Wordpress et al but then they have the website and charge me each month for the privilege.

It seems that software developers are not that interested in making nice easy web programs.
The ones that  can buy are either very limited (no tables) or very expensive on a subscription basis.

Wordpress seems a very popular solution, but that would be £36 a month for ever.

Thats not quite correct. You can install WP yourself on your server - its pretty robust and costs nothing. You just integrate with something like Woocommerce and bob is your proverbial uncle.

You must have a ISP through which your domain is registered. Quite often they have GUI tools to install it with a click of a button. I know I can install WP and SMF (along with 100's of web applications) really simply

thanks

Martin,
I have been involved in running our Church website and we use Wordpress. We had used the free option until we realised that the advertising that you have to accept is not always appropriate. Scantily clad ladies and dubious get-rich-quick schemes appeared at random and so now we pay £36 with no unsolicited advertising.

Its been a few years but from what I recall a lot depends on who your provider is.... I had one where I paid for my site, ran Wordpress with no adverts. You can run Woocommerce etc but you may start to run into issues where its very limited unless you pay a bit more & the free one probably comes with no support. But the setup wasn't too bad.

E Commerce...you always pay somewhere, software, additional features, your payment processor...support.

However its been about 5 years.....so take this with a grain or two of of salt.

I really like the new "Cowboy hat" sculpts on the PP website. Very elegantly done, and could probably fit in as Cowboys for the Western rules too?

It's nice to see the rest of the Dodge models up there too. From a distance, I initially thought that there was a rather fat general lying asleep in the back of one of them, until I read the caption of "supply car". These will add both character and individuality to MexRev games, I think.

I agree with the good Colonel, some lurverly Veehickles to add to the supply train - I like the integral torsos and separate head-sprue idea. That makes for some good conversions.
One of the nicest resin/metal combos I've done lately is the Western/ACW supply wagon but I think these will beat that hands down.
The cowboy-hatted troops are lookin' good too!

I can't believe that I am one step ahead of Miles for once. I have a LRDG already which I painted about 8 years ago. I have never used it though.

Back to MR various will this feature a pinata? I do hope so.😉

Lovely miniature Martin has sculpted. I will order him next time round to go with my dragoons and forlorn hope. Hope we can see more additional officers on all sides for this very unhappy civil war.

I think the horseholder photos at the top of the page have been labelled the wrong way round compared with the listing in the ACW range. However, I assume they can be painted up as either side, especially as the Confederate is wearing a sack coat.

Well done, Andy - Martin does like to keep us on our toes.

I think the Russian para head has been there for a while, but the WOTR is so new you can't buy it yet.

Which all rather begs the question - what body can you attach it to, given that the latest sculpts are explicitly "poor"?

More WOTR goodies to come...?

Loving the variant M113s, Martin. The Republique de Senemal will no doubt be placing an order for a couple of battle hardened versions for their regulars in due course... after all if they are good enough for General Zateb Kazim then his neighbours should follow suit... courtesy of Sahara (2005)

A somewhat eclectic mix of new photos and figures on the website (and now up on this Forum's News section):
- Macedonian foot command (new and rather lovely)
- Moorish cavalry (remastered version of an existing pack)
- Wars of the Roses arrow stooks (new)
- WOTR bowmen shooting low / straight (new)
- Italian WW2 command tank (photos newly posted)
- WW2 British heads for the soon-to-be-released resin jeep
- WW1 Austin Putilov armoured car (not sure if it's new, or had simply evaded the war photographers until now!)

Now that we have the pictures, we can see that the new Greeks are really nice sculpts. I don't need another project to sit on the shelf for a few years, but I'm sorely tempted with these and the Macedonians...

And the first batch of the remastered AK47 commanders - timed to help motivate us to get back into this chaotic period once we have PBI 2020 done and dusted.

These are lovely little figures, and it looks as though the bodyguards are to some degree interchangeable, to add some variety to the all-important command stand.

We really are in a golden age of PP sculpting!

Agreed. Very glad to see the Hoplites. They look splendid.

I've played a game of (shock/horror!) classic AK47 tonight with 3 new players. They all loved it. It was truly chaotic  mainly due to me forgetting most of the rules 😂🤣😅

Nice to see some new Huey crew members being "teased" on the PP website - I look forward to seeing these!

Mike is away at the moment, so I am waiting for his return  as he is the main mould makerer.
There are two packs of Nubians too.
