Title: game tonight of BB 39
Post by: martin goddard on April 24, 2019, 09:51:24 PM
A full battle
Here are some observations.

1. In this battle the cavalry were deadly. Turned up twice and smashed two wards. Lucky i think.
2. Scenery movement allowed 5 scenery translations/moves. Seemed fine.
3. Guns not very effective. Make them better or cheaper?
4. Generals joining units has become popular. This is good and historical.
5. Game lasted 2 hours.
6.Level of death seemed about right.
7. countdown worked well.

Overall things are looking good.  Need to address the small game thing soon

Full battle today 25/04/19.
Defender the small expensive army in the rule book.
Attacker large cheap army without the cavalry and increased with three foot units.
Level 3 from Piggy chase.
At game start defender lost 1 full base and 4.5 bases from the other units. No units lost.
Scenery.
Defenders edge.
Gentle hill. Empty, empty, Rough hill.
Wood,  Empty, empty, Boggy ground.
Empty, Hedge,  Empty, empty,
Wood,  Empty, empty, meadow.

No movement in the scenery.
Result Defender 15 points, Attacker 46 points.
Three Quarter hour setup. ! and a half hour game. 9 turns. Defender ran out of troops.

Scenery layout worked well but may be a couple more dice.
Gun fired once! And hit nothing.
Cavalry turned up once in only one set of zones because of scenery, upset a ward and pushed it back but destroyed itself.
Generals joined units twice to gain better unit status, the other occasions there was no point in attaching as the fight dice already reached 14.

We have played these two army types and the expensive army (fewest bases) just runs out of troops through the game. With the cheap (most bases) you just have lots of troops and enough for some reserve/ support wards. Did not take the cavalry listed, instead extra units. Able to soak up the cavalry charge and advance across the table.

We had a much more interesting game because the scenery did not move. We think that royalty, cavalry, stakes, hand gunners, guns should just be part of a selection of assets
