Title: Sea Fight Queries
Post by: Fat Wally on April 02, 2019, 09:06:23 PM
So the boy and I have been fighting sea battles with our new acquisitions.  So far pretty much self explanatory but we've hit a couple of queries...

1) Defender drew against (therefore winning) a Boarding Action fight after being successfully grappled.  The rules say both sides pause for their own turns.  I take it this means the fight doesn't continue next turn but both sides remain locked and pause for their own next turn?  So Defender has the next turn (pause).  Attacker pauses for his next turn.  Defender has the next turn.  Does fight continue that turn i.e in the Defenders?

2) How do you un-grapple?

3) Can a ship be grappled from both sides and assuming both grapples are successful, boarded from both attackers ships?

Loving the rules by the way and having great fun.

Good news

After a boarding action the ships are automatically un-grappled. Whether the boarding action failed or succeeded. both ship involved get a boarding marker. If the attacker successfully boards then both ships miss the next attackers turn as they both belong to the attacker. If the boarding action failed then both ships still get the boarding markers. In the ensuing defender turn the defender ship will lose its boarding marker. then in the following attacker turn the attacker removes his own boarding marker. In subsequent turns the ships act as normal. If a ship starts a turn next to another it can attempt to board straight away. Because the moving is sequential and not simultaneous, one boarding action will have been resolved before another can possibly happen. Thus a ship can be boarded from both sides. It is a fresh action. Once a ship is barded successfully it need not be boarded again by the same side.

Thanks for the quick response Martin.

Of course I feel a bit daft now because reading the rules again, post game, I realised I had missed the bit about becoming ungrappled.

Good news and sensible that you can board from both sides.

Great rules.  Well done everyone concerned.  My kid is raving about them.

Probably the most colourful (in more ways than one!) set of RFCM rules to date?
