The first set of land raid rules have gone out to the "high seas group".
They are a stand alone set and have little connexion with the sea fights.
Here are the potential problems. Comments invited.
I mention them in order for folk to comment, rather than as negatives that damn the rules.
1. Because the bases are not all in groups, there are a lot of moving parts.
2. Force sizes are slightly randomised, which can be a problem for players building a force. they would need a tub of extra bases.
3. There may be some "winning" scenery layouts. This is because important buildings are more valuable.
4.The end of turn 2D6 for defenders might slow down the flow.
5. Grid size....hmmm?
1. I don't think this will be a problem. We aren't talking dozens of bases.
2. Again not a major issue. I am thinking of basing similar to Vietnam so 2 figures on a coin. I think a maximum of 40 odd figures to cover all options?
3. Playtesting will eek out this one. Stewart is the man for this!
4. Again playtesting will determine.
5. I am in favour of 6" squares but 4" does keep the table.nice and compact.
I have no figures yet but will mock something up later and have a run through solo to get a feel.
I really like the plunder mechanism - especially the "What's this?". My pirate character Long Jon Short will have to keep his men away from the rum!
If you can have a look, that would be great Sean
1. You can use same figures for attack or defender so 24 figure bases + leaders + casualties, so about 70 figures
2. May change once play testing is under way.
3. Martin won't allow this, no sir!
4. From play testing once desired game length is determined we could use the same method as the sea game for count down.
5. 6" would allow mats already owned (pbi,Vietnam) etc to be used also more room for buildings and figures, 4" may be use 10mm buildings?
#1: I'd struggled a bit when first reading through the draft rules, but concluded that Defenders were Government Troops ("Troops") and Militia ("Scum"), while Attackers would be Pirates
Did I miss the point?
Hi Simon, you can read it like that or rival Pirate gangs raiding each other. I think you would only need a few government troop bases the rest I think can play for either team.
I wil clarify the base types. Should be no problem??? How about "them" and "us"?

"Goodies" and "baddies"?
I had assumed Government troops were the musket armed defenders purely from the current figures in the range but I do like the idea of pirate v pirate too!
You will be able to mix them in as the defender.
Did some play test games today at Mat's and with the PPHQ star chamber. Boy have i got a lot of reworking to do!! Will get to it!
