You may or not not be aware that a Sudanese infantry battalion fought for the French during the French intervention in Mexico in the 1860s. Although most of my figures for this war are from the QRF/Freikorps range , the Sudanese are from PPs British Colonial range.
They made their first appearance on the tabletop last week in a scenario that saw them fighting alongside Austrians against Republican Mexicans. That's interesting - certainly a rather alternative mix of troops to what one normally sees.

An interesting take on that period. Are the bulk of the Austrians actually Belgians? The basing method is very similar to one of my regular opponent's mid-C19th imaginations armies.

No - the Austrians are definitely Austrians - they wore the distinctive Jaeger style hat
The Belgian Legion did start with a similar style hat but dumped it in favour of the kepi
