I took Vietnam to the Stoke club on Friday. Capt. Adrian 'Poontang' Delves had a baptism of fire on the first mission of his tour of duty. It was a costly day with numerous casualties but valuable stores were recovered and Pilot Bryan was saved (the No. 1). Capt Delves has returned to base preparing for the second of 5 missions which will include contact with an NVA company and also a Firebase assault. He only has limited troops of average quality. If he loses too many they will be replaced with green troops fresh out of college. If he gets hit, we will use a dice mechanism to see how badly he is injured and if he can continue. The real Adrian will win this mini campaign if he survives all 5 games which will make up his tour of duty.

My nice aquarium temple. A peasant wonders what all the fuss is about.

An unfortunate incident that led to a media outrage as several civilians were caught in an air strike. War is hell.

Ade did really well on moving scenery making some nice clear fire zones.

A dramaticin game shot where US troops are involved in a stiff exchange of fire with hostile in the ville beyond.

Lock and Load. Early game with US troops eyeing the civilians with suspicion.

A 'down table' shot.

I really need some nice paddy fields which are my next project.

It went really well with the usual head scratching when you haven't played for a while.

A quick question. If I take a VC unit off table that has numerous casualties, those casualties are removed. I take it that unit can then come back on and recruit as normal. This how we played it but just to be sure....Also am I right in thinking a village square can only be recruited from once? I forgot that you had to have a potential peasant token on the village squares.

You may notice the green warbase tokens which worked very nicely too.

Sean,
Correct for the VC going off lose their casualties and can then come back as reinforcements to recruit some more.
For the VC game you need the potential peasant markers to record which villages have had their peasants raised. For the NVA game you just place two peasants no potential peasant markers.

Sounds like you had a good start to the campaign, the pictures look great. I take it the dark squares are flooded paddy fields?

The black acetate sheets are to represent paddy fields. They are rather unsatisfactory but I have yet to make any (or get them from the excellent S&A scenics).
Vietnam is really a great game. For those who dislike the square aesthetic, I think it's easy to disguise the grid look and it does save on micro measuring. Looking forward to our next game....but it's Hammerin Iron next week!

It would be neat if you could demo this at Burton

Simon

I'll bring it down as my introduction to the club, hopefully in the next couple of weeks or so...?

Looks like the visit will be the push to get your bits finished up for the game.

Little bit closer than Weymouth too!!!
