Today's top tip: considering drilling out the hands of lowland pikes to take wire pikes? Save yourself the bother, don't! The cast pikes have been moulded to the body of the pikeman, which makes it pretty darn awkward to cut away the cast pike. Then there's the drilling. So far I've got 4 usable pikemen out of two packs, 3 snapped drill bits, and an X-Acto blade. Fortunately I haven't lost any blood yet. This could turn out very expensive. Or maybe I just give up?

Why on earth are you trying to cut off and drill out the hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is on range that Martin made deliberately with open handed figures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pack 20/11. Pikes vertical open hand.
Pack 20/13. Pikes horizontal open hand.
Pack 20/15. Pikes 45' open hand

Wot Mike6t3 said...

I must admit that my fail rate has got better since posting. Finally managed to get 12 usable LOWLAND pikemen from 24 figures. They are so difficult to drill out, even after lots of practice, a big blob of blutack holding the figure at an angle (that has made it slightly easier), and judicious use of needle files. Now have enough for one regiment. Problem is I still need another 24....

Leslie might I suggest that for limbers you look at Naismith for light limbers, and Museum for medium/heavy limbers? Horses match PP horses pretty well. Ditch the Museum driver (nearer 20mm) and use PP dragoon horseholders as drovers. That's how I solved the limber problem. See www.keepyourpowderdry.co.uk for pics

At one time the Baileys in Warminster were there stockists, who is it now?

Naismith are now NaismithRoundway. Their limber is a two horse affair. The one pictured is a Museum Miniatures, which are stocked by Museum Miniatures.

(Sorry, sounds a tad facetious, it isn't meant as such)

Not at, its just that some of these smaller manufacturers seem to have changed hands a bit over the years.

Please, please, please, please, please, please can we have some engineers. In armour. And some without? Please.

Need to have something to help carry me through death by Foundry buff leather 7b -  ECW cavalry are really rather dull to paint. A light at the end of the tunnel if you want (prosaic enough?). How many variations on buff paint can a chap come up with? Something different,  something exciting, might just be the carrot to spur me on to paint 128 of the johnnies.
