MILL 6 out now
« on: June 30, 2020, 12:21:30 PM »
Get down to your local newsagents (maybe not, that has all gone now).
MILL 6 is out for the end of June 2020.
If I have mangled or left out your stuff do tell me please. Then I will correct it.

Thank you Martin - this looks great - possibly the best yet ("only" 79 pages!)?

Not everything is necessarily of direct interest to me in some issues, but I will be reading every single article this time around.

Having played it quite a few times prior to publication, this Gamette is really good - certainly my favourite so far.

Well done to all who contributed, and especially the illustrious editor!

Simon

There are some remarkably good paint jobs on show; very inspiring stuff. the gazette sounds like good fun and potential for use in working through one’s own saga.

Wonderful edition, with some lovely paint work on display.

I had never heard of an electrostatic flock box before either.  A revelation!

Simon.

Simon,

A flockbox is indeed a revelation, if not a revolution.

I saw this one at a show and was sold on it:

https://www.warpainter.net/flockbox-3-w.asp

Unfortunately, I subsequently bought one from somewhere else by mistake, which didn't have quite the same features (being able to plug in your own leads would have been very helpful to me).

I'd go for the Warpainter one!

That is a pity.

I have the War World one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/War-World-Scenics-Grass-Applicator/dp/B07N69XN1J/ref=pd_lpo_21_t_0/259-6026006-5024155?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07N69XN1J&pd_rd_r=b6f57bd0-f8f3-467a-b9a3-1d9f96d06192&pd_rd_w=Jfi27&pd_rd_wg=wpiZB&pf_rd_p=7b8e3b03-1439-4489-abd4-4a138cf4eca6&pf_rd_r=MVJTQ55VTT6C7VDHQNFZ&psc=1&refRID=MVJTQ55VTT6C7VDHQNFZ

Mine has a slightly dodgy switch, but does the job.

However, it seems to have been designed primarily to make tufts (as per the picture) or doing large object, rather than for flocking figure bases. It can get a bit messy when you're trying to do a base and all the flock flies into the air. One day I may pluck up the courage to break the box open and swap the wires around to reverse the system, but I've not yet found an easy way into it.

I must really be living off the grid. I had never heard of these. (Given the really big shows are several thousand miles away). All this time I had a manual way of doing it...which of course is much slower. So had to go look it up. Found a decent youtube video on making one. Thanks for mentioning it.

That one seems to work well, Bob - a nice find!

I made one from one of those electrostatic fly-swatters. It was good fun, but didn't work that well. Hence my investment in the flockbox.

I've recently found that a puffer bottle (aka empty paint bottle) works pretty well too (I use matt varnish as the adhesive) for application to figure bases.
