Dead ground questions
« on: June 10, 2020, 04:33:15 PM »
Hi all,
Had a first play test of Western and really enjoyed the game and everything went smoothly.
There was a template of dead ground and a couple of things did crop up which I wonder if you could answer please.

1. If two foot units are in the same dead ground template, one in each of the squares, can they see and fire at each other within the same template or is visibility still not allowed?

2. During the game a foot unit in a dead ground template was assaulted by an enemy foot unit. When the assaulter was at short range (adjacent square but outside of the template) there was no opportunity fire as there is no visibility for foot within the template (No visibility in or out for foot). We went straight to the fight when the attacker moved into the template. Were we right?

Thanks again and more forces now being painted up!

Regards
Barry

Hello Barry
1. No sight in or out of dead ground. This includes from one square of dead ground to an adjacent square of dead ground.
2. In reality  one group of men could see another, but the nature of dead ground means that effective fire cannot be brought to bear. Dead ground should not be considered as a  trench. Instead dead ground is a rough set of dips and trips without a nice parapet. An easy comparison would be a deep gully.
3. You can assault into or out of dead ground but there will be no opportunity shooting before that happens.

Hoe that helps :)

I am making some “DeadGround” templates on 6 x6 templates then they can be twisted either and opposing way, to each other. So there would be no right or wrong way to enter or exit the piece ?
