Martin

Looks correct. Will be great to see Nigel there!
I wonder whether we can recruit 1 more person to get to 10.

I am absolutely fine with acting as non playing umpire to ensure smooth running and being an impartial arbiter to make sure no one is moving trees around to hide their troops.

Guys
As I am going to be out of commission for a while, Ben has been promoted to I/C for January. Could you please let him know what scenery he will need to arrange please, given the table arrangements.

Cheers

Dave

Sean, since you are travelling a great distance in probably difficult weather then you will play!
I will do the umpire / scoring thing if we have odd numbers.

I think we are all confident enough that a non-playing umpire is not needed?
Don't worry about the numbers being even.
I would expect some will drop out at the final moment  and others may well opt in.

If you put a table together you need what Martin listed on Page one. Major part is 12 pieces of scenery. European setting. If you need any templates, please tell just after Xmas.
Miles.

Itís quite hard to do on a dedicated 4 x4 table thatís why. Dave has a bridge so we can do the Nijmegen Bridge at some point next year. To do it you really need 2 tables ! So 2 separate battles. Look at Nijmegen 44 everyone know about the Paraís doing the Waal crossing but not the Guardsman fighting their way into town taking the bottom part of the Bridge.

Okay Generals, the offensive begins in 8 days time.

I hope your troops are well on their way to being mustered, the terrain scouted and your dice given a good talking to.

I want positive mental attitudes from everyone. The fighting will be fierce. The fortunes will swing. The outcome in doubt. But a stiffer upper lip is called for in situations like this. They don't like it up 'em!

Yes looking forward to this and still have a fair few figures to paint for my EW Germans - may have to supplement with a few late war figures. I have had a practice game with Martin in which through using the Flank asset I was pretty much able to neutralise Martins company before the game had really got going. The flank asset pretty much denies the defender any opportunity of getting any reinforcements onto the table before the end of turn four and in what could be a six turn game pretty much kills of the defenders chance to reinforce/ counter attack  any objectives. Whilst this is not too bad in a friendly evening game if people are travelling some distance to play a couple of games they may feel a little disgruntled if they end up playing games in which they feel they had no real chance.

So I am suggesting we ignore the Flank asset for the day - controversial I know.

Chris

Ben hit me with this in our games over the holidays. Whilst it was annoying, my view is if it is part of the rules set and should be left in. Taught me a lesson, to read up on the assets  :D

The problem arises Dave from the Germans having 8 asset points for flank.
This makes it almost guaranteed that the Germans get a huge advantage?
I suggest we "can" flammers and flankers and anything else with "..ers" on the  end? :)

As judge for the day, I nearby decree Flankers is banned to enable everyone to have a nice day and not be sitting at the table wishing that they had stayed at home.

Wait
What's that you say....Im playing Germans?? Er...hamg on a second...Let's not be too hasty...

Joking aside this was something raised by Martin a few weeks ago and I did mean to mention it on here. Unless there is a huge protest movement with placards let's leave the Flank asset for this games day.

As a victim of this dastardly manoeuvre (and yes, Martin, you know who you are), I would suggest that it can be a game-changer and - if I were attending - would support the referee's decision in this matter.

Chaps, I don't agree, but will go along with the majority.

I agree with Dave, it is in the rules so we should allow the players to have the asset.  We spent a lot of time play testing the rules and it was adjusted then so why are we now changing it again.

If you think your opponent may be trying this you adjust your deployment. The 'Flank 8' asset is only allowed to ONE army, just ONE Blitzkrieg Germans 1938-40, this asset should only be being used against other contemporary factions!  This event is to commemorate January 1940, so the Germans should have assets to reflect Blitzkrieg. If this makes them tough to beat adjust the victory points as Martin does to produce a balanced game outcome don't cut them off at the knees before the game has started!

You can not dumb-down the rules because of the players have forgotten the rules and therefore the assets and its use.

If you remove this how are you intending to compensate the the armies that choose to use this asset?

Les, Ben and I agree completely with your comments, the Blitzkrieg German forces were powerful against the allies in 1940.

I don't like certain rules in certain games, but the rules are there to be observed and used as necessary.
