PBI 18th January 1940
« on: November 12, 2019, 09:18:48 AM »
Thought i would start a new topic covering this  PBI day.

1. Held at Entoyment Saturday 18th January 2020.  This will make it an 80th anniversary of 1940.
2. 1940 Europe?
3. Armies must confirm to 1940 list?   Stick with the company as listed in the Company architect.  Alternatively we could just make up armies on the day that stand the best chance of winning? But I would rather not. It is an option though.

Here are a few ideas that should make the games run better (?)
1. Vehicle mounted HMG/MMG max 2 shots per turn. Can claim HMG +3D6 bonus.  This is intended so that players  don't spoil the game with gangs of mad max type MG wagons.
2. The countdown of 21 should give 6 turns on average. However some games can drag on or be very quick. A similar 6 turns can be created by both players rolling (with a re-roll) of 42.   Just an idea, thoughts?
3. How about introducing a SCW type morale system wherein morale fails are more often but lose 2,3 or 4 bases.  Maybe better than whole unit disappearing. Thoughts.

2,3 are just ideas. We can just leave it as it is?

Martin,
I agree with your points with as follows;
Stick to the Current Lists for 1940 Europe.
Limit the MMG/HMG shooting if mounted on vehicles as your suggest.
Use the 21 current countdown.
Use the current morale.

This will give a level playing field. Also everyone can read and understand the rules in advance with just the shooting change to be aware of.
1x1 games worked well last Saturday so best to stick with this but with a 2x1 if we have odd numbers of players.
I will bring my Dutch army. If we need an additional German army I can provide one.

As Ben and I are 'Learners' we will follow the rule book but be guided to an adopted changes. Ben now has home work to learn the rules.

I am available at the moment,
I will use a French army
Happy to use countdown and morale as Martin suggests.
I thought vehicles mmg fire was restricted to two shots as per the rules, or was this playtested and not make it in the final book ?

I will say yes provisionally , confirming on  Thursday or Friday.
Shall we have declarations of which nation we are using to get as even a balance as possible between Axis and Allies?

I will be building a new army so happy to go with either to help the balance but will need to make the decision prior to the new year to allow me time to paint.

Handycon.

This is a board gaming convention held every January and August at the Holiday Inn, Handy Cross, Maidenhead. Starts on Friday morning and goes on until Sunday evening. It is very popular and gets booked out months in advance. Games played vary enormously. There must be at least 500 attendees I would guess.
Last time I played Great Western Trail, Keyflower, Sheriff of Nottingham and many more.

My plan is to have 16 Trucks with roof mounted MG, slow advance across the table with their infantry disembarked and following.
Mortars to give smoke and covering fire as they advance.
Definite winner.

Did they have snowmen and Christmas tress in 1940?

We should All use our respective 1940 Army lists. As the theme suggested 1940.
But how close my LW British army will be to that list ???
Will need a couple of Matildas II and some Boyes A/T guns.
I was hoping to have more lead time, as I have started to collect a 1940 type German Army. Hopefully I can get it together for the year after :1941 ?
