battle at club
« on: March 08, 2019, 10:06:41 PM »
Down at the Levellers wee  dusted off SCW.
The game system is good ( i think) but i had forgotten a lot of it.

Assault guard versus communist militia.
The assault guard did very badly indeed on the chase pre-game.  Only 2 guns and a platoon (average).
The communists surged on to the table.
With their one platoon the assault guard held all three objectives.
Because the assault guard platoon had MMGs the objectives were difficult for the communists to take.
A second assault guard platoon quickly arrived and rolled 1,1,1 for the AP scores.
The communists then took both objectives as the initial assault guard platoon melted away.
The game ended with the battered assault guards holding 2 objectives.
The game was a draw.

Points of note
1. Best to do short assaults.
2. MMGs are  a real boon when defending.
3.Single bases to delay assaults are not always useful.
4. Stick something in every objective if defending, eve if it spreads the platoon out a lot.
5. Only have medium tanks if you are sure of enemy vehicles being present.
6. Bombers can be useful for militia assaulting. Especially if the militia have a a 1Ap assault ability.

A most enjoyable game. Better for having two players a side.
A good co -operative game system.

Bayonet and Ideology is a great system. One of my RFCM favourites. I always struggle as the attacker though to get into built up areas even if lightly defended. Think I need to try new tactics.

I agree. It is very much a "town fight" game.

Yes two players a side makes for a much more social game, less confrontational.

My favourite way of playing any RFCM game is 2 v 2. It's more social and you can blame your partner if things go wrong!

Having someone to blame is central  to command.

Market Garden being a classic case in point, it seems!

A bit like "who messed up the latest version of the rules draft?"...?
