Terrain and Figures / Desert designs
« on: May 12, 2019, 09:52:56 PM »
I have been a busy boy of late. Recently I posted a thread about DIY terrain building. This must have ignited some spark of motivation somewhere as I have remodelled some of my desert adobe buildings into terrain templates. Hereís a few teaser shots for now, Iíll throw together an article for the mill on how I built them. With plenty more photos. In the meantime hereís Otto and chums up go no good amongst the ruins of a desert fort.

Terrain and Figures / DIYers

Assuming that our hobby is roughly based around painting and modeling, I would be interested to know how many of us actually create our own terrain pieces from scratch.  Especially now that there is such a vast array of suppliers including Martin that create bespoke mouldings for buildings, bridges, hedges etc..

As much as I like the resin pieces availiabe, I'm a bit tight! and fair to say more of a modeller than gamer, so personally I very much enjoy building pieces from scratch be it buildings or terrain templates. What do others do?

I'll put a piece together on scratch building for the next edition of the Mill.

Terrain and Figures / Skip finds

I donít usually skip five as a frequent activity, however a number of old picture frames were disposed of at work the other week and the wargamer in me immediately noticed a use for the hardboard backing.

A bit of sawing and I have around a dozen 12x6 terrain templates. And some of the hardboard pattern will go to use as cobbles for built up areas.
Additionally I also found some foam packaging.

That I am creating buildings with.

More progress to follow.

As a shift in focus from North Africa, Iíve started progress on some British for a NW Europe campaign

First up are the support elements, options for Crocs as assault firepower or Achilles to contest any airports threats. Pics of the first foot platoon to follow in the next few days.

Additional options will be Mortars and 6lb AT guns

PBI / Beaten Again!
« on: April 10, 2018, 04:20:03 PM »
This time at the hands of my 11yr old daughter.  We played a very basic game of PBI using the encounter scenario and balanced forces

I won the pre game recce and chose to be the attacker.

This was the layout, defender at the far end, i chose to run up the left making the most of the cover.

unfortunately the action point dice were against me in the struggle for the objective, never quite acquiring enough points to assault

the resulting close range return/opportunity and active shooting also returned poor dice results

so many morale failures resulted in a complete route from the field before the first reinforcements could come on!

PBI / Players and rules
« on: January 06, 2018, 09:09:44 PM »
OK guys here is my dilemma;

1. Are there any PBI players out there in the UK North East region (Durham/North Yorks) as I am presently a solo player.

2nd dilemma, I currently own the 2006 version of PBI, so if I'm a solo player and content with what I presently play, should I upgrade to the 2015 version, is there much difference???

Thanks in advance
