Title: Western day
Post by: Stewart 46A on November 27, 2017, 07:40:07 PM
With Martin hoping to get the new rules out by Easter 2018, how do people feel about a western day at Entoyment in Poole sometime in June or July?

June is Squarebashing day. Could we look at the beginning of April ? July works too. Definitely should happen!

At the moment I am unavailable April and the Rules May not be out so 1 vote for July.
Of course iím Not essential so if rules are available and an April date is preferred then go for it, I can still help with bookings etc.

I vote for July - it would be sad for Stewart to do all the organising and not attend, plus there's often not much else wargaming-wise over the summer.

We could maybe spin a magazine article out of it to help promote the then-newly-published rules  :)

Ok partners have some to Entoyment and booked 7th July 2018 for the western day.
It will be at their new shop on Poole key. They will have 30 tables so plenty of space.
Cost £5 per player.
(14th is Bovington show,21st is my birthday, 28th just to near Xmas)

Stewart, we now have 2 separate threads dealing with what I think is the same thing, with the other thread being here:

http://rulesforcommonman.uk/smf/index.php?topic=907.msg7637;topicseen#msg7637

Can we choose one [I suggest this one, as it's under "Piggy Days"] and close the other.

Oh - and I'm up for this event, by the way!

This has been confirmed and will take place at Enjoyment hobby store 7thJuly 2018.
Plan - arrive at 0830 for a game start at 0900 lunch about 1200-1300 then 2nd game until 1600 approximately.
Martin plans to have the new rules out by the end of June so you could arrange to pick a set up on the day. For those yet to complete a force we will have spar forces available if required.
Speaking to Enjoyment they hope to have moved to their new location by then.
Cost will be £5 per player. Please let me know if you plan to attend so we have an idea of numbers.
Martin has also offered to make a special figure free to all players.
Thanks.

Great Chris, also I forgot to ask, who can provide a mat and scenery? I have a setup and Martin has one. We hopefully need about 5

Post by: Colonel Kilgore on April 27, 2018, 10:56:33 AM
I have a mat, and should have enough scenery done by then for a full game set-up.

Title: Re: Western day

Thanks Martin,
I have 1 complete set up and 3 forces
Title: Re: Western day

I've just worked out what a truly "full" set of scenery could be, with no optional rules but maximum of each scenery piece that might be required if the 2 sides exercised their "worst" combined options (e.g. both chose a rough hill as their initial plus special pieces):

5 buildings
5 camps
4 woods
4 very rough hills
4 rough hills
4 gentle hills
3 dead ground
5 still water
4 long grass / crops

as well as 5' of track that could also be deployed as 3' instead.

This is on the basis of rules draft #57.

Can anyone spot a flaw in the logic or maths?

Simon, yours maths gets an A.  I think in the rules i will be a bit more blunt. I will probably say, that if the pieces you particularly want are not available, then you should have brought your own! it show poor command abilities to be that unprepared.

Simon if your providing a complete set up with varied scenery and two forces as a demo game that will be sufficient, if other players not happy them
Then as Martin said they should have brought their own.

Stewart

I should have roughly enough scenery for a game though it may be a case of this is your scenery rather then what scenery would you like - I have enough railway track for a game too. I don't have figures for two forces I'm afraid.

Thanks Chris,no problem I have a few scenery pits spare plus 3 forces so they will have to use what we have if they donít bring their own.
