Title: Update
Post by: Sean Clark on October 30, 2019, 12:07:27 PM
Some of you will have noticed an absence of posts from myself this year. It's been a pretty tough year for many reasons but life goes on and we pick ourselves up and face the next challenge. As Bob Hope once said "if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!"

Hopefully I'll be more active here and elsewhere over the coming weeks. I'm very much looking forward to the annual extravaganza that is the Peter Pig Weekender.

Hope you are all well and rolling 6's when you need them.

I'd just like to publicy thank those people I have communicated with over the last few days. It shows what an incredible community we have and it means a heck of lot to me.

The support and good wishes have been overwhelming.

You have obviously been mixing with the wrong type of gamers in perhaps the wrong scale?
Have you finished you modelling area yet?

Its a shame you are so far up-country.

Yes a dalliance in 6mm but 15mm is my one true love. Maybe I should start a 15mm podcast as discussed previously!

Sean just enjoy what you are doing, I do 15mm and 25/28mm - in the end do what you enjoy nowt wrong with 6mm ( i'm of an age where I can't see 6mm but that's my problem).

I would listen to a 15mm podcast.  Itís the one true scale that rules them all.

 ;)

Simon and I discussed it a couple of years ago....maybe for further consideration. We'd need people to volunteer as guests. There is a small cost involved to the hosts too.

Nothing wrong with 6mm, if you see what I ve got to do for Tank Yankee in 6mm ? I think most countries represented I could do 4-5 armies per nation.
I see Team Yankee is going to be catching up with me as far as British forces are concerned ? Releasing in time for Xmas more up to date British vehicleís.

I also game in a variety of scales (barring 20mm). Must admit though that the last 12 months painting has been predominantly 15mm followed by 10mm. Do have a 6mm Battle of the Boyne shiny army awaiting its paint, probably spring.

Is that Tue new Baccus figures, Leman?

Yes, and they appear to be much more robust than the WWI figures.

The WW1 figures have very weak ankles!

Yes following some of the pdcasts and OTT often the participants are not in the same place but connected over the internet.

It will just need someone to be the cordinator and someone with the skills to make the recording!

Very C21st!!

I have some experience of this now. Just need Skype and were good to go. Editing is the biggest chore...a 2 hour podcast can take 8-10 hours of editing using Audacity. Again I have experience if this and would be happy to do it. Maybe a quarterly release to go hand in hand with the magazine?

The other issue is cost...podcasts aren't free to run. Typically they cost around £10-15 per month.

I can explore if there are cheaper options. I have been told there are free hosting platforms but never found one.

Sean what would your recommendations be for a good SKYPE headset?
Would we need any other software / hardware?

We can host podcasts here if necessary. The new hosting package is less restrictive storage.

Tools I use are RingCentral , Google Hangouts and Skype ... all of whom you can record (and are free) with lots of features for presentation - screen share etc

I've used both Zencastr and Skype to record the conversation. It has them been edited using Audacity and hosted on Podbean.

Simon, if you can show me where to go on here it would be the best place for it I think.

Les,

I have no idea to be honest. I use an old headset from work. It needs a microphone on it and defiantly a USB connection. Then it's just a case of downloading Skype. During the set up process you create a username. I call you on that just like a telephone call and bingo.

Sean all set up.

That was quick!

If as Simon C. says, the podcast can be hosted on this site then there will be no cost involved. The only issue I would ponder is can I get it so it is captured in the various podcast apps.

Simon C can maybe help.
Title: Re: Update
Post by: Leslie BT on November 03, 2019, 07:49:30 PM
I suppose the question is how to capture the skype call for editing in Audacity.
Title: Re: Update
Post by: Sean Clark on November 03, 2019, 09:52:48 PM
I can do that....you can record your conversation and then just import it into Audacity.

The question is whatever format hosts the podcast on this site needs to be recognised by iTunes. Once the cast has been accepted by iTunes, it becomes visible on all podcast apps.

I have run a podcast for a few months now using Podbean which is recognised by iTunes so easy for listeners to find. I have averaged 500+ downloads per episode.

Let's see how we get on...

Apologies Pbeccas. This was the last episode from a few weeks ago now where I interviewed Greg Wagman from Little Wars TV.

;D. Iíve been listening since day one.  Also didnít realise it was you.  I have zero interest in 6mm (because Iím a canít see them offender) but Iím really enjoying the podcast because I like hearing peopleís stories in the wargaming world.  Brilliant!

 :D

I'm on a bit of a break at the moment as I contemplate my own hobby. I enjoy it but it takes an awful lot of time.

To mix things up I think I'll produce a couple of 15mm Piggie based ones, hopefully chatting to some members on here at one point.

I do a fair bit of 6mm - Altar of Freedom by Greg Wagman, BBB from 1853 - 1914, plus the ACW in 3mm, by Chris Pringle, a bit of GWSH2 and some Ancients, using Age of Hannibal, as well as just embarking on William IIIís wars. Many thanks for this in-depth look into the world of 6mm. (Mind you itís 15mm ACW right at the moment).
