"Generation 3" Vietnam figures?
« on: November 30, 2016, 10:02:22 PM »
I have just spotted the following note that has snuck in at the bottom of the Vietnam range on the PP website, alongside a nice photo:

"These are the first generation of PP Vietnam. From the collection of Paul G.  The above (current) range is generation 2. In 2017 there will be the start of generation 3. PP started 15mm Vietnam back in 1986 way before most other 15mm companies even existed."

I know that Martin has previously mentioned a few items in the pipeline, but do we know whether it is intended to replace the entire line, or just certain packs and/or focus on additions?

I'd hate to spend scarce painting time on models that are soon going to be obsolete [or, perhaps more positively, "collectors' items"!]....

I had a lot of these back in the day. One or two remain in my current collection. If Montagnard figures are incoming, I shall be purchasing.

Martin has allsorts on the work bench.

Having played the Montagnard game over the PP Piggy weekend, yes new figures will be in the pipeline. Its a great game with a fresh feel for playing a game set in Vietnam.

The fire base game is a delight also with some novel touches to give an exciting game around a subject that could be seen as a small side show in Vietnam.

Thanks to Stewart aand Martin for hosting the Vietnam games over the Piggy weekend.

I've been thinking about what is "missing" from the existing (albeit pretty extensive) range from the US side to fit with the new MOCB rules.

I really do feel that it would be useful to have some "squad leader" figures, since the current command figures are really officer types, more suited to being the overall force leaders. This would just be a single pack at most.

And if we had a pack of US heads, we could both convert some of the AK47 Professionals with M16s to Vietnam use, as well as the LRRP types (especially the radio operator) to mix with "line" troops.

2 more packs (in addition to Les's Montagnards), then....?

Oh I didn't expect this to happen straight away :)

Just thought it might be helpful to focus on the "bare minimum" when Vietnam does rise to the top of the stack.

Meanwhile, very much looking forward to seeing the new SCW stuff in due course.

Martin you never get behind as there are so many deemands on your time.

The lists and schedules just get rearranged from time to time.

The demands of family and the workshop must come first!

Absolutely - real life must come way before Martin indulging our pet projects for what is, after all, just playing with toy soldiers.
