Eye Candy / Re: 1914 BEF

The initial BEF force is now complete (apart from the Scottish machine gun, which is on the painting block), and can be added to at leisure. I have ditched the Saga idea for now and am getting straight on with the German opposition.

First the whole force, followed by a few closeups.

Yes indeed Mike. I have just been admiring someone’s figures for the simplicity of the painting style, which nevertheless is very effective. It also has the advantage that the figures get onto the table quicker.

Be careful not to get them mixed up.

Mike, that's great to hear - both about Martin's game and the new Entoyment venue.

There's not a huge amount on their website (at least that I could find) on this, but a summary of the gaming centre here:

and a photo of the new store, with opening times and directions here:

General discussion / Entoyment Wargaming and Hobby Centre, Poole.
« Last post by Big Mike on Today at 11:04:31 AM »
Last evening Martin put on a 25mm Western game with around 10 players ( so much gunsmoke I could barely see everyone). The venue was the new Entoyment shop and games centre. The a two games were decisive and all enjoyed the scrap between US Cavalry and Plains Indians. The 1ft grids and 10x 6 table with scaled up scenery looked great and was very playable.
The venue was exceptional. A dedicated Wargame venue open everyday! Free parking.
Over 20, 6 X 4 playing tables, most set up with scenery etc, a large shop with all manner of goodies for gamers and a cafe area. We played in a private room arranged by Martin, but the upstairs gaming area was busy and rightly deserves to be well supported. Check out the Entoyment website for details. Miles has booked our PBI day there in September.

Sorry to come this a bit late.
First of all Duncan, take heart from all the wise words given here, not from the Spotty Herberts that populate GW stores. Your standard of painting is very high so keep it up.
In general I look at my own figures and they either pass the test or they don't. But once they are painted and have been bloodied on the field of battle they are beyond criticism, having earned their laurels. The occasional little glint of bare metal may need touching up.  Also with the advancing years I know I cannot paint to the same level of detail now but to compensate my eyesight doesn't see the imperfections.
Remember guys, any detail that cannot be seen from over 12 inches away is just for show.

TMP, any entry with more than 10 or so replies and Bill's name on are just not worth looking at, there thread just become flights of fancy.
