Hey you in the Jail! / Re: Western markers
« Last post by Colonel Kilgore on Today at 06:10:59 PM »
Lots of interesting thoughts there, Duncan. To pick up on just a couple:

a) I like the idea of a moving train from a number of perspectives. How about making the moving train both a couple of defence pieces and the liabilities, as a special scenario? And maybe also allow one or two defending groups on the train itself? This would bring something new and dynamic into the game and be a good excuse to use more of Martin's toys. It always seems a shame if Mr Pig makes stuff that we can't easily field in a game. On which point...

b) .... PP already makes a marker set for Western. The "pinned" marker could be used for Hammered / Pinned / In the Dust (whatever is finally decided upon) units, while the "home" markers could be used to indicate defence pieces (unless of course they're trains)?
The Men of Company B / This week at NVA recruitment depot

This week we are adding three new packs.
Dead NVA
Prone NVA. AK and LMG armed.
82mm mortar teams. 3 poses plus a mortar.

Next week the intention is Officers with pistols, NCOs and NVA with backpacks.  Then I will move on to bolt action rifle packs.
At the moment the NVA range looks to be aimed at about 15 packs. Of course there will be "holes" but it will be comparatively comprehensive (?). a coupe of very interesting packs will be included that will delight gamers(??) Secret at the moment so that we don't get poached by any other company...

Hello Duncan
Thanks for the comments.
Prospectors come under the workers force category. Prospectors could be called a "faction" of the workers category, but that would be bit of a grammatical stretch i feel? .
The basic idea behind Western is that players can build any force they like and fight all comers. This gives plenty of potential for finding an opponent who has his own scenery and figures. Campaigns can of course feature common protagonists. Atlantic did some great little scenery items like miner's carts etc . They will go fine with 15mm as the original Atlantic figures were mostly 20mm.

Do you have to have any vehicles at all with Panzergrenadiers...?

German pzshrecks operated as a platoon , they could be attached but they could be independent support units. They don't belong to the Rifle platoons but the Support platoon with the MMgs, M.Mortars and KFzD 233. (1943+)

If you ditch the trucks how do you have 6 units PzGren ? - its either all in vehicles or non.

That's a very nice way of looking at it Stewart :)

So a big theme in Westerns seems to be prospectors, for things like gold etc. I seem to remember reading as well about gold miners moving in on Indian sacred sites in the Black Hills and the like. So how about introducing Prospectors as a faction? They could have special rules for dynamite like so of the others, special defence piece of a mine shaft opening or bit of equipment. Lots of pack mules for liabilities.

Have you also considered favoured enemies? For example a favoured enemy of Miners would be the Indians. Favoured enemy of the Cattlemen would be farmers (one presumes represented by townsfolk or settlers.) And so on? Just a thought, could add a bonus to victory points or be an enhancement of aggression bonus?
