Bayonet and Ideology / Re: Gun movement
« Last post by martin goddard on Today at 09:43:35 AM »
Good question John.
4AP is tough enough to make sure guns only move one square per turn. In addition it will use most of a gun's AP for that turn.
This prevents time wasted on limbering, unlimbering and traversing. Instead it is assumed the gunnery commander gets on with the job of getting his guns into action, without the overall commander attending to the detail.

There is probably no point having different AP costs for different situations.  Because it will complicate a small aspect of the game, or cost so little that guns will become a manoeuvre unit, or so expensive that no gun will ever  afford it

Hope that gives some insight??

That's why I wanted to start now. There is a lot to plan for.
I 've just bought "storm over Arnhem" board game to see how variable it is to do the Bridge fight at Arnehem itself ?

This sounds a sensible approach, Miles.  I am happy to contribute troops etc and help with logistics in some way. May I suggest that whoever takes the lead for each of the two games starts to get thier teams together now.

Yes, well spotted Simon. The split table worked well for the river game. I agree with Les about the table clutter spoiling the visuals. Why bother with any scenery at all! Miles did a great job with our ACW layout. We both agreed that an extra table would have helped for our rules, markers, dice, etc. But we still kept coffee cups etc off-site. Some great game ideas to ponder on. Not sure the 25mm Western game will catch on .....

Bayonet and Ideology / Gun movement

Loving the new rules despite my Communists getting crushed last night by the foul Falange. One thing really perplexed us though. Why is gun movement the same from difficult terrain as other terrain? I.e. road movement still uses 4 ap. Any one able to shed any light on that?

Conquerors and Kings / Byzantine books

Jack Ludlow. The last Roman series. His "roman" thing refers to Byzantium as Eastern Romans.   They are historical with some interpretation on minor details. written from the viewpoint of general Belisarius.  Lots of battle against Vandals, Sassanids Goths etc.  Highly recommend. Brusilarii seem a good invention.

We are off the Tonbridge (South of London by a lot). We shall have the stand and Western in 15mm.  Weather looks a bit iffy though!
