Watch the movies over the holiday. Shows how restricted you are in armour.
The cross roads fire fight was a bit odd, when the attackers turned up with so many AT rounds.

Great to see the country-side around Martin in Dorset. And it has caused some money to be spent at the Tank museum.

Must look at the Band of Brothers DVD's next.

I enjoyed Fury but I don't know enough about WW2 to say how accurate it was. When ever I watch films like this I always relate it to a game of PBI. The Sherman v Tiger battle in particular looked like a life size PBI game.

Band of Brothers is excellent. Quite emotional too.

I wonder what the next great war film will be. WW1 has never had the big budget Hollywood treatment.

band of brothers is a must - very very good.

Fury - Hum. - well it did show how devastating a tank can be with just mgs -
as for the rest , well its Hollywood , what can you expect.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of The Pacific, Les.

I felt it much more disjointed than Band of Brothers, and harder to identify with the characters. Plus the soundtrack wasn't quite so evocative for me.

But please let us know!

Yes I didn't think Pacific was as good as band of brothers - the books its based on ,with  the old breed & helmet for my pillow are individual accounts and don't capture the close knit comradeship of band of brothers - maybe it wasn't so in the Marines  ?
The CGI in places was very games console, but its depiction of the fighting was of the same standard, but not as good as saving private Ryan and Omaha was nothing compared to Iho jima or Tarawa for disastrous beech landing.

helmet for my pillow by leeke was written as a response to south pacific , which might explain its downbeat feel.

Cannot really speak for Fury as I turned it off after the first 15 minutes, maybe that's all required to be said. As for the Pacific I just couldn't get into it as much as BoB as a series although it did give me some inspiration for collecting USMC & Japanese forces for PBI, which I am still considering, all infantry not a tank in sight.

If anyone wants a free copy of Fury send me your address and you can have mine, seen it , not going to watch it again -

Its funny how in both saving private Ryan and Fury the leader forgets the mission
Saving private Ryan , oh lets go attack a mg position that will help me find Private Ryan
Fury - Oh lets take on this Tiger , that should ensure we can hold the Vital crossroads position.

The Monuments Men I think is a great film, I think it conveys personally emotion which a lot of other war films seem to miss.
