"Hostiles"
« on: December 07, 2017, 08:59:46 AM »
I've seen quite a few posters this week advertising the forthcoming film "Hostiles":

Looks good for atmosphere and guidance on painting Cavalry and Indians, as well as modelling Western scenery.

And it seems to have been getting rave reviews from some of the press.

Well, that is synchronicity indeed. I woulds have advised a few more fighters to reflect a proper 300 point force. maybe they were using an early version , say number 13?
Looking forward to it.  Club film???

I think the key roles are all "Leaders" combining the "Gifted Shooter" and "Gifted Fighter" attributes...

The film looks excellent. I suspect it was inspired by an early iteration of the Western rules. Hopefully there will be a mention of the RFCMteam in the end credits.

Have you considered allowing another leader to be upgraded to a gifted fighter/shooter as well as the general? Maybe they would need to be the opposite of the general or the same, depending on the army type. Could be a similar concept to the army 'champion' of old.
For a suitable points increase of course. Would not need to be mandatory, just an option. You could say they have to be the leader of a veteran unit though if you wanted some control I suppose?
What do you think? Good idea/pants idea/no opinion?

Duncan, it is a fine idea. However the problem is that each extra part added makes the rules more difficult for players.  Any addition would be for gaining new tactical dimensions rather than steering toward the popular 28mm skirmish aspects.
This means that there is no intention to add in further skirmish content. Western is closer to the tactical/historical end of the gaming spectrum as opposed to the 28mm skirmish end of the spectrum.
